The AALL Professional Development Committee is seeking nominations for its inaugural Chapter Professional Development Awards, which honor outstanding professional development programs created by AALL chapters.

"We know that our chapters develop and present wonderful and outstanding professional development opportunities for their members," said Timothy L. Coggins, chair of the Professional Development Committee, when asked why the awards were created, "and these awards are an excellent way to recognize chapters that excel in this area."

The two Professional Development Awards for which chapters will compete celebrate excellence in educational programming. One award will be given to a chapter that excels at designing a comprehensive quality professional development program, up to one year in length. The other award recognizes a chapter for a single quality program or workshop of a ½-day in length or more.

The Professional Development Committee will evaluate the entries based on how well the programs are designed and executed. The committee will consider such criteria as each program's aptitude for improving job skills; achieving its learning objective; advancing the AALL Competencies for Law Librarianship; introducing new or changed areas of law librarianship; and employing quality instructors, handouts and learning methodologies.

To be eligible for the awards, chapter programs must have been conducted during the calendar year prior to Feb. 1.

The deadline to apply for the awards is Feb. 1. For more information, including the award application form, please visit http://www.aallnet.org/prodev/chapter_prodev_award.asp.
