Chapter Newsletter Highlights: HALL, WestPac, CALL, MAALL, ORALL, ALLUNY
This post describes some articles in AALL chapter newsletters that are likely to be interesting to librarians outside those chapters.
The November/December 2013 issue of the HALL Newsletter, publication of the Houston Area Law Librarians, has an interesting and readable introduction on legal design, an endeavor to make legal materials more visually understandable and appealing.
The Fall/Winter 2013 issue of WestPac News, publication of the Western Pacific Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries, offers several summaries of sessions held at WestPac's recent meeting in Las Vegas.
The Winter 2014 issue of the CALL Bulletin, publication of the Chicago Association of Law Libraries, contains an academic law librarian's account of designing and offering a course on legal practice technology that would be useful to any librarians thinking of designing similar courses or presentations. Also included is an essay arguing that law libraries should maintain their participation in the Federal Depository Library Program.
The December 2013 issue of MAALL Markings, publication of the Mid-America Association of Law Libraries, has a reports on sessions at the last MAALL meeting, including one on Creighton Law Library's presentation on its digital repository and project to digitize Nebraska Supreme Court briefs.
The December 2013 issue of ORALL Newsletter, publication of the Ohio Regional Association of Law Libraries, includes an essay defending law reviews against New York Times article suggesting they are irrelevant, and summaries of some sessions given at the last ORALL meeting.
The Winter 2013-2014 issue of ALLUNY Newsletter, publication of the Association of Law Libraries of Upstate New York, has an essay discussing the value of libraries as social and meeting spaces.
