Who is eligible to join AALL?

AALL has three membership categories in accordance with the Bylaws, which were revised in October 2012.

Active:
Any person who is interested in the objectives of the Association.

Retired:
Any person who is interested in the objectives of the Association, who has retired from active membership, and who does not qualify for associate membership.

Student: A student member must be enrolled in a degree program related to law librarianship. Membership in this category is limited to five consecutive years.

What is the cost of membership to AALL?

As of March 1, 2013, active membership dues are $230 and student and retired membership dues are $59 for one full membership year, which runs June 1, 2013 - May 31, 2014. If you join after March 1 and prior to June 1, your membership dues will cost the full amount, but you receive benefits effective immediately, essentially granting you free membership for the remainder of the current year!

Membership dues are prorated on September 1 and December 1. Special interest section memberships are $20 each and are not prorated.

How are the dues prorated throughout the year?

All membership dues are prorated on September 1 and December 1. After March 1, all members join and renew for the next dues year at the full rate. Members receive March, April and May for free and their membership dues are paid through May 31 of the next dues year. Special interest section dues are not prorated.

The discounted membership appears online and in all public records simply as an active membership but is billed at the student/retired rate ($59 instead of $230). The discounted rate is good through May 31, 2014. Unemployed AALL members cannot join or renew using the online form. If you wish to receive this discount, you must use the printable application.
