New Product Award
Description:
This award honors new commercial information products that enhance or improve existing law library services or procedures or innovative products which improve access to legal information, the legal research process, or procedures for technical processing of library materials. A "new" product is one which has been in the library-related marketplace for two years or less. New products may include, but are not limited to, computer hardware and/or software, educational or bibliographic material, or other products or devices that aid or improve library workflow, research, or intellectual access. Products that have been reintroduced in a new format or with substantial changes are eligible.
Criteria:
- To be eligible for the award, a nominated product must be a new and innovative commercial legal information resource that enhances or improves existing law library services and/or procedures.
- Eligible products include (but are not limited to): print materials, computer hardware or software; products or devices that aid or improve access to legal information or the legal research process, and procedures for technical processing of library materials.
- Any product that has been "re-introduced" in a new format or that has substantial changes is eligible.
- "New" is defined as being in the library-related marketplace for less than two years.
- Any AALL member may nominate products for the Award. If a vendor nominates its own product, AALL membership is not required.
- Only nominations received by the deadline will be considered.
- Enhancements of existing products are not eligible for the Award, unless the enhancement provides a completely new method of using the product, and retrieval of information is substantially improved.
- Complete contact information for the vendor must be provided, to facilitate the CRIV’s communication with the product developer.
- Members of the CRIV New Product Award Subcommittee will evaluate every eligible product. Vendors will be contacted to obtain complimentary review copies of print resources or temporary logins for electronic resources. Print copies will be returned to the vendor upon request.
- If a product is deemed ineligible, somebody from the New Product Award Subcommittee will notify the nominating party and provide a brief explanation.
