POSITION OVERVIEW: The Head of Reference Services plans, directs, coordinates, and implements day-to-day research and reference services for judges, court personnel, and court libraries throughout the Eleventh Circuit; identifies and provides research and instructional services for judicial officers, law clerks and other library users; acts as a liaison with judges and court personnel for research services; develops, manages and expands library services, websites, newsletters, and other learning and development materials; designs, develops, and delivers library orientations, educational  programs, and programs for chambers staff and others; works with library and IT staff to update, manage, and maintain library IT projects including web pages, digital collections, and other initiatives; participates in collection development and migration to electronic resources  by evaluating and selecting information in all formats for acquisition or retention. This position reports to the Deputy Circuit Librarian.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Masters in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution is required; at least 3 years of professional law library experience with supervisory responsibilities or three years of research and training experience in the legal field; expert online research skills (including Lexis, Westlaw, and the Internet) and familiarity with print and electronic resources; experience in instruction and training, website design, and electronic publishing; excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to make presentations and conduct training sessions. Travel is required.

 

Experience with digital collections is a plus; J.D. is desirable.

Branch Law Librarian (posted 01-19-2010)
Full Time – Monday through Friday, 8 AM -5 PM

Qualifications: Candidates should have an MLS or equivalent from an accredited library science program; five years law library experience: excellent print and online research skills; proficiency in online legal and business research, including Westlaw, PACER, Checkpoint, D&B, Hoovers, etc; ability to perform a wide range of research tasks and to prioritize projects; ability to work independently. Strong tax and litigation background preferred.

Position Summary: Librarian will be branch librarian and report to Office Manager in Atlanta and Library Manager in Houston.  Librarian manages all aspects of the branch, including reference, business and legal research, and library maintenance.  Librarian provides services to attorneys, legal assistants, secretaries, and professional staff in Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Responsibilities and Duties: The Librarian performs legal and non-legal research in print and online; provides reference service; checks citations; borrows materials through interlibrary loan; and travels to other local libraries for research and interlibrary loan purposes.  Some travel to Philadelphia is required.

The Librarian is responsible for physical management of the library, including: processing and routing mail; maintaining the check-out system; locating missing materials; reshelving materials; maintaining a neat and orderly library; coordinating with filing service and filing materials as needed.

The Librarian provides scheduled and point-of-need training for attorneys and staff, including library orientation for new hires and summer associates.  The Librarian coordinates with the local Westlaw representative and other vendor representatives to ensure ongoing training.

 The Librarian performs other duties as assigned.
