The Union List of holdings at AzALL member institutions is in the process
of being updated.
PURPOSE: The Committee is responsible for the AzALL Union
Serials Project which will ultimately include all publications meeting
the AACR II definition of serials held by participating libraries.
The Committee also arranges for the publication and distribution of the
various lists it has produced.
COMPOSITION: This Committee is composed of a Chairperson and
at least five Committee Members representative of libraries participating
in the Union List.
DUTIES:
1) Set policy for the AzALL
Union List of Serials in the following areas:
a. Inclusion of materials:
In meeting the inclusion goal, we choose to issue separate listings of
titles rather than a single alphabetical list. The listings will
include: (1) periodicals; (2) looseleaf services; (3) law reporters, digests,
statutes, citators, encyclopedias, and miscellaneous materials published
on a periodic basis.
Materials excluded are treatises and looseleaf treatises. To distinguish
looseleaf services and looseleaf treatises the following is offered:
The looseleafservice, in its many manifestations is simply a lawbook
or set of lawbooks which continues to grow after its initial publication.
It is an ingenious publishing response to the constant change inherent
in our legal system. Through the periodic insertion of new material
and the removal of superseded pages, the looseleaf service is continuously
being reedited to reflect the current state of the law..........
A few.....treatises are also published in looseleaf format- usually with
annual supplementation by interfiled pages - but these are not looseleaf
services. (Cohen and Berring. How to Find the Law. 8th
ed. 1983, at 387-388.0
