General Grant and Scholarship Guidelines

CoALL sponsors a Grants and Scholarship Program to provide funds for attending library related educational programs, courses and/or institutes. Applications for grants or scholarships are reviewed by the Grants and Scholarship Committee and the Executive Board. Applications should be addressed to the Grants and Scholarship Committee Chair.

The following are the guidelines used in awarding these funds.

1. Each fiscal year CoALL offers:

A.  Two (2) travel grants: one in the amount of $250.00 for attendance at the AALL Annual Meeting and one in the amount of $150.00 for attendance at the SWALL Annual Meeting.

B.  Two (2) scholarships in the amount of $170.00 each for students enrolled in library school.

C.  The number of other grants awarded and the size of each will depend on the amount of money budgeted for the Program and the number of applicants.

2. Preference will be given but will not be limited to individuals who have been members of CoALL five years or less.

3. Grants and scholarships generally are not awarded to prior recipients.


Grant Guidelines and Application Procedure

1. The following types of educational programs will qualify for grants:

A. Annual Meetings of other library associations, e.g. Special Library Association, Colorado Library Association, American Library Association, etc.

B. Conferences, workshops, special institutes.

2. Grants will be awarded on the basis of:

A. Proven or potential ability of the applicant

B. Promise of future usefulness and permanence in the law library field

C. Financial need

D. Contribution of the applicant to CoALL and/or the profession

E. Need for representation by a member of CoALL at the institute/meeting.

3. Applications for grants should be addressed to the Grants and Scholarship Committee Chair, and should include the following information:

(1) Date.

(2) Name.

(3) Work address and telephone number.

(4) Reason for requesting grant (to attend AALL Meeting, Institute, etc.).

(5) Previous recipient of CoALL Grant? If yes, when and for what use?

(6) Participation in CoALL activities or membership on CoALL Committees.

(7) Employment history in the library field.

(8) An itemization of expected expenses, including registration, travel, lodging, food, etc.

(9) Percentage of expenses, if any, employer will pay.

All applications must be received by the Grants and Scholarship Committee Chair at least 45 days prior to the first day of the conference.
