Almanacs & Encyclopedias

• Encyclopedia Britannica Originally a fee site, now free (with advertising.) This site covers the entire Encyclopedia Britannica and is easy to search.  Other features include links to web sites, magazines, Amazon.com and more.  A search for blackstone and commentary, for example, will return articles on Sir William Blackstone, links to external articles and reprints of Blackstone's Commentaries at Amazon.com.
• The Farmers Almanac Just like the print version, this web site has weather forecasts, recipes, humor, helpful hints, gardening advice, and entertaining stories.
• Information Please Allows searches in general, entertainment, sports, biographies, dictionaries, and encyclopedias.
• The Internet Movie Database In depth coverage of movies. This site allows you to search by title, year, actor, and other categories. Great for trivia buffs or for that elusive question, "Who played X in Y?"
• The Library Spot Not really an encyclopedia, but links to many reference sites. Includes reference sites, ask an expert, lists of lists, libraries/librarian's shelf, and related sites (BookSpot, Geneology Spot, HomeworkSpot, etc.)
• Just found! LibraryHQ.com.
• Not really an encyclopedia, but Portals to the World from the Library of Congress is described as:
  • Portals to the World contain selective links providing authoritative, in-depth information about the nations and other areas of the world. They are arranged by country or area with the links for each sorted into a wide range of broad categories. The links were selected by Area Specialists and other Library staff using Library of Congress selection criteria. When completed, the project will include all the nations of the world.
    

Cataloging Links

News

• BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) News with a British flavor. Includes world, UK, news summaries, entertainment, business, and other sections.
• CNN CNN has all sorts of up to the minute news including political, business, international, financial, sports, entertainment and human interest. Articles are mixed with sound bites, video clips and links to related articles and/or websites. CNN also will warn you if you are leaving their site, an interesting disclaimer idea.
• The Dallas Morning News Most of the articles from theDallas Morning News, entertainment guides, news, sports and commentaries.
• ESPN.com  If you need sports information, scores, articles or TV sports listings, you can find it all here.
• Salon.com Articles and essays covering arts, books, business, health, politics, technology and much more.

Cleaning Hints

• Hints from Heloise Yes, it's the column that you and your mother read, Hints from Heloise. The site features a mix of hints, personal notes from Heloise, and plugs for books, personal appearances and more.
• How To Clean Anything This site is broken down in to six hint areas: exterior, pet, stain, interior, automotive, recreation. Each section is broken down in to further subcategories.
• Queen of Clean Linda Cobb ran her own cleaning business for years and now write books and makes appearances as the Queen of Clean. Her tips section is broken down in to around the house, bathrooms, cement, carpet, cleaning/fabrics, and kitchen.
• Tipking.com  This site has too many categories to mention here. Be sure to check the miscellaneous section for the anniversary gifts list.

Fun Stuff

• amiright.com If you aren't sure if Huey Lewis and the News were singing about oboes or old boys barely breathing, then search amiright.com for the lyrics. This site is chock full of those misheard song lyrics partnered with the correct lyrics, all indexed by song, artist and decade.

• AltaVista Translations Provides up to 5k of translations in the following languages:

• Systran Professional Translation Services Promotes a 48 hour turnaround for professional translation services of documents under 2,000 words for a minimum fee of $50.
• Go Translator Provides the same services as AltaVista Translations from Systran.
• FreeTranslation.com A free translation service, also has links to translation software for sale. Provides translations in the following languages:
