HALL Criteria for AALL Grants
Each year, in recognition of its role in furthering the continuing
professional education of its members, Houston Area Law Librarians will
allocate funds to help make possible attendance to the annual AALL meeting or
institute. All members are encouraged to apply.
1. The applicant must be a current member of AALL and of HALL at
the time the application is made.
2. The applicant must have been a member of HALL for at least
two years at the time the application is made.
3. Current Scholarships/Grants Committee members and the current
Board of Directors will be ineligible to receive awards during tenure.
4. Grants will be to the annual AALL meeting or institute.
5. In selecting the award recipients, the Committee will
consider the following factors:
a. Lack of financial assistance from employer.
b. Demonstrated commitment to HALL and law librarianship. This may be indicated by leadership or
participation in committees, sections, and programs of professional law
library associations.
c. Relevance or expressed interest in particular subject of
meeting.
d. Long-standing members of HALL who have been financially
unable to attend meetings.
6. Priority will be given
to applicants who have not previously received a grant. No recipient will
receive a grant more often than every three years.
7. If for any reason an award cannot be used as requested, or
duplicate funds subsequently become available from the employer, the award (or the duplicate
portion thereof) will be returned to the chair of the Scholarships/Grants
Committee.
8. Applications for the AALL meeting must be received by the
chair of Scholarships/Grants Committee by the announced deadline.
9. The Committee, after screening applicants, will submit a list
of qualified applicants to the HALL Board of Directors, which will make the
final selection.
10. Scholarship recipients will be required to write an article
for the July-August issue of the HALL
Newsletter recapping their experiences at the AALL meeting or institute
and speak at the August HALL meeting following the meeting or institute
attended.

The grants program will be assessed at the end of each year.

HALL Graduate Library School Scholarship Criteria
To
foster and promote the profession of librarianship, Houston Area Law
Librarians may award no more than two annual scholarships to individuals who
meet the following criteria:
1. The
applicant must have been a member of HALL for three of the last five years at
the time the application is made and remain a member during the tenure of the
scholarship.
2. The
applicant must be enrolled in, or accepted for, a graduate degree program in
library/information science at any American Library Association-accredited
program. Preference will be given to a program at a university in Texas.
3. The
applicant must not have received any financial assistance from his/her
employer for tuition, fees, materials, etc.
4. Current HALL Scholarships/Grants Committee members and the
current Board of Directors will be ineligible to receive awards.
The
scholarships are awarded subject to the following conditions:

for any reason an award cannot be used as requested, or duplicate funds subsequently
become available from the employer, the award will be returned to HALL
through the chair of the Scholarships/Grants Committee.

HALL Law School Scholarship Criteria
To

current Board of Directors will be ineligible to receive awards.
