Minutes of the 10th Anniversary Meeting - Fall 2001

President Helen Mellett (hereinafter referred to as "Helen")

recognized the Program Committee, including Rhoda Fleisig of Westlaw and Deidra Payne of LEXIS-NEXIS, for their preparation of this meeting and for the gifts provided by Westlaw (Palm Pilot drawing [won by Gary Lewis]) and LEXIS-NEXIS ($10 Barnes & Noble gift card for all members present)

Recognized Preston Peyton for the fine LLAA history he wrote for the LLAA Web Site

Recognized Virginia Hare and Lorie Feld as charter members of the Association

Helen called the business meeting to order at 12:32 P.M.

$490.00 was spent for this meeting
The September 28, 2001 checking balance is $832.00
The September 28, 2001 savings balance is $3,460.48

Secretary David Clark read the minutes of the May 4, 2001 meeting. John Hightower moved to accept the minutes. Lori Martin seconded the motion. Passed by voice vote.

LLAA Directory:

Not completed yet. Tim Lewis and his staff are working on it

Listserv and web site:

The web site is completely up-to-date. Mandy Haddin is the new webmaster

Procedures for expenditures of association funds:

Helen met with the By-laws Committee, concerning a questioned expenditure of association funds by a past-president, last year. It was determined that it was not a by-laws issue, but rather an issue for the executive committee to make a preliminary decision upon. The executive committee will meet, before the next general meeting, to discuss it.

Gary Lewis introduced his new book, Legal Research in Alabama

Deidra Payne suggested that a good Association fund-raiser would be to teach legal research to paralegals, as is being done in Atlanta.
