AGENDA

This workshop focuses on the intersection of People, Process, and IT in an information/ knowledge management context. The approach advocates taking a practical view of KM and outlines a much-used process to create a successful KM program from initiation to rollout. The methodology is based on considering people, process, and technology as keys to success in addressing each step of the KM road map process to collect, analyze, resolve, select software application, design/develop/test, implementation, use, and evolve and ensuring all the steps and success factors are aligned with the business objectives. Case studies and examples are included to provide insights into how organizations have successfully strategized, selected, and implemented KM technology and activities.

Topics:

  • Knowledge Management Technologies, types, functions, purposes, and benefits  there are many types of technologies that can be used to support a KM program, a lot of them overlap which makes it difficult to pick the right one.  Attendees will learn about the various categories of technology platforms, their functions, purposes and benefits.
  • Knowledge Management Risks   attendees will learn about the common risks encountered in implementing a knowledge management program and what can be done to mitigate them.
  • Aligning KM with the business/organization  - attendees will learn that the key to success with technology is taking a balanced approach, considering people, process, and technology. By understanding people, and processes, the appropriate supporting technology can be selected and implemented.  Attendees will be introduced to the concept of alignment and the activities required to develop a KM strategy that aligns with the organizational needs.
  • KM roadmap process  learn about the process for determining how to support knowledge management technology. The steps start with collecting organizational requirements and move through analyzing, and resolving these to select the technology. Then moving on to designing and developing, the technology platform and testing the actual implementation. Finally, there is a discussion of the use and evolution the technology platform.
  • Requirements for success, including change management and governance  - what are the requirements for KM success? Considering people, process and technology are key as is the roadmap process discussed in the fourth webinar, but what else is a vital part of success?  Attendees will learn about components that are critical for the success of a knowledge management program.
  • Case studies: successes and failures   -  this workshop will have an optional case studies component that will look at a  knowledge management best practices in a law firm, an automotive manufacturer, financial institution, and professional services firm.  We will also review lessons learned.
