Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin Discussion Forum Rules and Conditions

The following are the rules and conditions of participation in the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin Discussion Forums. By subscribing to and participating in this Discussion Forum, users hereby agree to be bound by and warrant their full compliance with the following terms of participation:

This Discussion Forum is a service provided by the Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin in furtherance of its nonprofit and tax-exempt purposes. This Discussion Forum may be used only by Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin members and only for the purpose of discussing matters related to or arising out of the Law Librarian profession represented by Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin.

Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin accepts no responsibility for the opinions and information posted on this Discussion Forum by others. Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin disclaims all warranties with regard to information posted on this Discussion Forum, whether posted by Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin or others; this disclaimer includes all implied warranties of merchantability and fitness. In no event shall Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin be liable for any special, indirect or consequential damages, or damages of any kind whatsoever, resulting from loss of use, data or profits, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of any information posted on this Discussion Forum.

This Discussion Forum shall not be utilized in any manner that violates federal or state antitrust laws or other laws prohibiting anticompetitive practices. The antitrust laws generally prohibit any agreement or understanding inconsistent with the right and obligation of competitors to exercise independent business judgment in pricing their products or services, dealing with their customers and suppliers, and selecting the markets in which to compete. No express agreement or understanding is required; one can be inferred from statements or conduct. Do not post any information regarding specific prices or fees charged or paid, and do not post any information concerning prices, pricing practices, discounts, or other terms or conditions of sale either obtained by or offered to another entity. The Discussion Forum may not be used to provide information, materials, products, or services in exchange for compensation of any kind.

Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin does not generally monitor this Discussion Forum for inappropriate postings, and does not on its own undertake editorial control of postings. However, in the event that any inappropriate posting or unauthorized use of the Discussion Forum is brought to Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin attention, including but not limited to prohibited posting and usage as outlined herein, Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin will take all appropriate action, in its sole discretion. Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin reserves the right to terminate, without prior notice, the Discussion Forum access of any user who does not abide by these guidelines.

Social Media Policy

Law Librarians Association of Wisconsin (“LLAW”) is utilizing social media sites to promote itself and engage members and non-members. As a result, there is a potential for privacy of the association to be breached. Thus, LLAW has developed guidelines to properly portray, promote and protect the association.

The policy also provides suggestions on how to protect personal and professional reputations while using social media.

It is a breach of acceptable conduct to post the following information:

  1. Anything that may harm the goodwill or reputation of LLAW;
  2. Any disparaging, discriminatory or harassing information concerning any customer, employee, vendor or other person associated with LLAW.
  3. Any private information relating to a member or vendor of LLAW.

You should:

  1. Be responsive: If someone responds to something you’ve said, be responsive and follow-up quickly (e.g., 24 hours).
  2. Be yourself: Always be transparent about who you are and who you represent. Use your real name, and what your role is.
  3. Build a following: Promote yourself by finding and sharing information that will be interesting to those connected to LLAW.
  4. Be professional: Strive for accuracy and clarity when posting, keeping in mind you are representing the law librarian community.

This Policy applies regardless of where or when members post or communicate information online. It applies to posting and online activity at work, home or other location. LLAW reserves the right to monitor and access any information or data that is created or stored.
It is also advised that you comply with any other organization’s social media policy with which you are affiliated.
