American Legal Ethics Library

The American Legal Ethics Library, from Cornell’s Legal Information Institute (LII), contains the full text of the professional conduct codes or rules, and various state ethics opinions. Coverage is provided for most states. The LII publishes some, and others are included through links to state bar or court sites. This library can be searched via the table of contents or via a full-text search.

The Center for Professional Responsibility provides national leadership and vision in developing and interpreting standards and scholarly resources in legal ethics. This site provides information on developments in the area of legal ethics.

An excellent resource focusing on the unique ethical issues raised by the technology of the Internet. The site’s most useful service tracks and publishes state and local ethics rulings relating to the Internet, including attorney advertising and e-mail communication. The site also hosts the WebEthics Forum, a threaded hypertext discussion focusing on the ethical issues involving Internet use by legal professionals.

A comprehensive site for ethics and professional responsibility with links to law and governments documents, journals, newsletters, message boards, government agencies, individual state bar associations, and ethics rules.

National Organization of Bar Counsel

Members of the National Organization of Bar Counsel (NOBC) enforce the ethical rules which regulate the professional conduct of lawyers. This site’s highlight is its semi-annual compilation of court decisions on attorney disciplinary matters. The NOBC prepares summaries of new court cases and ethics opinions for its meetings twice a year. Summaries are available from 1996 on, with each summary’s digest organized by topic. The page also lists the staff of every state ethics agency and provides links to various ethics sites.
