This is the first 2004-5 GODORT of Michigan (GODORT-M) membership meeting. It is co-sponsored by the  Michigan Association of Law Libraries (MichALL). Westlaw is also co-sponsoring this program by providing breakfast and parking.

RSS, a dialect of XML, is becoming a standard feature in browsers, blogs, web sites, and advanced ILS. This program will be an introduction to this new technology, its use and future potential for real-time awareness of government information (federal, state, local).

• This will be an overview of the meta language that allows aggregation and syndication of new content on the Internet n real time.

10:15 RSS feeds to Congressional Record & Federal Register via West's IntraClip

• IntraClip is a powerful awareness service alerting Westlaw subscribers to important legal developments. This presentation will introduce a new feature of the IntraClip: the RSS feed. Since summer 2004 IntraClip has been offering Rich Site Summary (RSS) feeds from all Westlaw databases. Katherine will show you how to setup West IntraClip for producing customized database searches for delivery of results in real time via RSS feeds. This 'hands-on' demonstration will show you, step by step, how to create, format, authenticate, and add customized Congressional Record & Federal Register RSS feed searches to your preferred RSS reader.

11:00 'NewsMaster'-ing e-Government : toolkit for electronic government information dissemination with RSS

Presentation outline:

• This will be a 'hands-on' RSS tools. RSS feeds will be created, added and brought to the audience in real time. XML templates for RSS syndication, with embedded instructions, will be introduced and explained. Clients, server based and browser enabled aggregators, conversion tools, RSS directories and RSS search engines will be introduced and several will also be demoed.
  At the end of this presentation government documents librarians will have an understanding of RSS feeds and be able to use the RSS XML provided templates and toolkit for syndicating government documents information via web sites, wikis, e-newsletters, "govblogs" and also use a variety of aggregators and RSS enabled browsers for monitoring RSS feeds produced by federal, state and local government web sites.
