MichALL (Michigan Association of Law Libraries) celebrated its 28th anniversary in grand style at its annual meeting held at Wayne State University on May 21, 2004, in the Law School’s Partrich Auditorium. 47 MichALL members representing academic, law firm, court, government, and corporate libraries from all over the state, including Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Detroit, attended the meeting. Four educational programs and a business meeting were conducted along with chances to socialize and network at breakfast, coffee breaks, lunch, and a tour of the law school and law library. The tour of the library also included a demonstration of Wayne State’s two mobile wireless carts that store, secure and recharge 30 Gateway wireless laptop computers for classroom instruction. The membership turn out for the meeting was excellent, due in part to fact that the program was offered free of charge to members in good standing. The program itself would have brought in many attendees anyway, as Michael Samson, the 2004-5 MichALL president, created a program designed to inform us of exciting digitization projects being conducted by the Michigan Institute of Continuing Education, the Law Library Microform Consortium, the Wayne State University, the State of Michigan, and GPO. During the membership business meeting a very interesting discussion about the role of MichALL and how to make it a more vibrant association was held. Several ideas were entertained including:
Michael Samson is scheduled to give a presentation at the 2004 AALL annual conference in Boston, entitled “Creating Powerful Web Presentations Without an Internet Connection” (E-2, Tuesday, July 13). |
