SANDALL Annual Report As of 2006, SANDALL has 106 members and is still the youngest AALL Chapter. This past year from September to June, SANDALL had a total of nine sponsored meetings, with six brown bag luncheons, the holiday party, the Tri-Chapter Institute and the Annual Business Meeting. The chapter chose to be a part of the Tri-Chapter All California Institute in March 2006 with NOCALL and SCALL in lieu of having its own fall institute. SANDALL performed the registration duties for the Sacramento Tri-Chapter Institute entitled, "California Resources: Gateway to Business Regulation." Although two grants were awarded, regrettably the two recipients had a last minute change in plans and declined the grants. Nonetheless SANDALL was able to offer Pat Mundy, the new Branch Manager from the North County Public Law Library and Valerie Railey from the Federal Courts Library, $510.00 scholarships each to attend the 2006 AALL Annual Meeting. In addition, SANDALL conducted a raffle at its Annual Business Meeting to raise money for next year's grant recipients. The SANDALL officers that ended the 2005-06 term were Ellie Slade, President; Bob Richards, Vice President; Pat Rusheen, Secretary; Annette Jackson, Treasurer; and Valerie Railey, Past President. During the year Margarita Bull resigned as Vice President, and Bob Richards was elected in her place. In addition, Ruth Levor also resigned as Treasurer and Annette Jackson was appointed by Ellie Slade for the remaining 4 months of the Treasurer's term. The new incoming 2006-07 officers are Brian Williams, President; Pat Rusheen, Vice President; Joshua Jones, Treasurer; Tiffany O'Neil, Secretary and Ellie Slade, Past President. Pat Rusheen, Vice President and Program Chairperson, is already making plans for the SANDALL 2006 Fall Institute and other events for the next term. SANDALL passed a new bylaws amendment at its Annual Business Meeting that allows for candidate ballots of officers to be emailed electronically to the membership. Another amendment passed in 2004-05 to allow student membership still needs to be mailed into AALL for codification. Also at the Annual Business Meeting members voted to raise the dues from $15.00 to $20.00 per regular member and $10.00 to $15.00 for student memberships. The next SANDALL Board will need to formulate a new budget for the following year. As the chapter now has about $17,000 in its treasury, the membership wants more of the revenues given back to the chapter in terms of programs, scholarships, institutes and other services. All the committees executed their duties efficiently, but the public relations committee chairperson remained open. It is hoped a new Public Relations Committee chairperson can design a new brochure and packet to attract new members, employers and students to our organization. The membership also voted to give recent retirees, Dorothy Hampton, the former Head of Public Services at Thomas Jefferson School of Law and Mary Lynn Hyde, the former Director of Library Services at the City Attorney's office, certificates of recognition for their years of services in the field of law librarianship.
Respectfully submitted by, Ellie H. Slade M.L.I.S, M.S.Ed. |
