SANDALL 2006-2007 Annual Report

SANDALL continues to grow and is becoming a more vibrant organization, bringing together law librarians throughout San Diego and beyond. At the end of our 2006-2007 year we have 114 members total, with 23 being new members. Our treasury remains stable with a total balance of almost $18,000.

SANDALL elected officers for the 2006-2007 year were Brian Williams (President), Ellie Slade (Past President), Pat Rusheen (Vice President), Joshua Jones (Treasurer), and Tiffany O'Neil (Secretary). However, Brian Williams relocated to Orange County to take a position at UCI and found it difficult to continue as President and resigned his position on March 20, 2007. At that time, Pat Rusheen became acting President until the end of the fiscal year.

SANDALL reached out to its members and legal community this year through 12 educational and social events such as an Ice Cream Social, a day long Institute, several Brown Bag lunch seminars, a wonderful holiday party and a half day technical workshop.

Several retirees (Mary Lynn Hyde, Dorothy Hampton and Joan Allen-Hart) were honored this year at various events with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Complete program details are provided in Appendix A - Program Committee Annual Report.

The SANDALL Grants Committee also had a busy year. From July 2006 through February 2007, the committee consisted of Karla Castetter (chair) and Kim Kane. Starting in March 2007, the committee consists of Arnold Josafat (chair), Thomas Champagne and Bob Fortin Richards. SANDALL awarded two $40 grants for the SANDALL Fall Institute. The recipients were Mary Lynn Hyde and Arnold Josafat. In addition, SANDALL provided two $600 grants to attend the AALL Annual Meeting in New Orleans . These grants were awarded to Marianne Sterna and Cheryl Weeks-Frey. SANDALL was also awarded a $490.00 grant from AALL for a full registration to the 2007 AALL Annual Meeting. This grant was awarded to Patricia Rusheen.

We had a relatively quiet year regarding policy and bylaws changes. The only policy change involved an effort to "go green" and terminate the print version of our chapter newsletter. It was determined that the newsletter will now be distributed electronically as a link via the chapter listsev, thus negating the need for advertisers and a business manager position, and cutting down on postal fees and use of paper resources.

In the government relations area, SANDALL participated in a letter sent to Barbara Boxer from the California AALL chapters congratulating her for championing EPA libraries.

In the public relations area, a new committee was recently formed, chaired by Victoria Williamson. Pat Rusheen and Ellie Slade have also volunteered to sit on this committee. The committee has begun to look at effective ways to promote SANDALL and its activities.

A newly formed Nominations Committee assured that our nomination and election process ran smoothly this year. The committee consisted of Marianne Sterna (chair), Linda Weathers and Betsy Chessler. The election process this year also included a "special election" to fill the position of Past President, which became vacant as a result of Brian William's resignation as President in March 2007. The incoming 2007-2008 Executive Board consists of Sheila Corman (President), Carmen Brigandi (Elected Past President), Pat Rusheen (Vice President), Leigh Inman (Treasurer), and Gina Catalano (Secretary).

Respectfully submitted,

Pat Rusheen
2006-2007 Vice President and Acting President as of 3/20/07
