The Southern California Association of Law Libraries (SCALL) is a local chapter of the
American Association of Law Libraries (AALL).
SCALL was approved as a chapter in 1953 and has an active membership of over 300
librarians and
information professionals from academic, private, state, and county law libraries in the Southern
California area. SCALL sponsors an annual institute, has over 20 committees, publishes a chapter
newsletter, runs a listserv, and maintains these web pages.

| Congratulations
to Vice President/President-Elect Jessica Wimer for her outstanding
Institute, held in Ventura March 13-15, 2008. Many, many volunteers and
committee chairs helped Jessica make this one of the best institutes
ever. We truly have a talented and dedicated group of volunteers in
SCALL. Special thanks to all our sponsors, exhibitors, donors,

|
The purpose of the SCALL Scholarship is to encourage current library
school students living in Southern California who hold promise of
future involvement in the law library profession. Cheryl Kelly, Chair
of the Library School Liaison Committee, is pleased to announce the

| At
the request of GRC Chair MaryRuth Storer, AALL Associate Washington
Affairs Representative Mary Alice Baish, and Michael Ginsborg, NOCALL
GRC Chair, the SCALL & NOCALL boards have submitted a letter to
Sen. Barbra Boxer expressing our opposition to the proposed closure of
the EPA libraries.

In addition, on behalf of MaryRuth and Mary Alice, the SCALL board has
submitted a letter to the Honorable Henry Waxman (D, Los Angeles),
Chair, House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, in support of
The Presidential Records Act Amendments of 2007 (HR 1193), introduced
by Rep. Waxman to nullify a 2001 Presidential Executive order, and
which would restore access to Presidential records.

has also signed on to letters sent to the Honorable Nancy Pelosi,
Speaker, US House of Representatives, Senators Dianne Feinstein and
Robert Bennett, and Representatives Juanita Millender-McDonald and
Vernon Ehlers, in support of direct access to Congressional Research
Service Reports.

In addition, SCALL has submitted a letter to the Hon. Jerry
Lewis, Ranking Member, House Appropriations Committee, in support of
full funding of the GPO, signed a petition advocating publicly funded
research in the U.S. and signed onto a letter to Senate Majority Leader
Harry Reid and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell in support of
the Open Government Act of 2007.Full Funding
