We currently have an excellent opportunity in our San Francisco office for a Research Specialist.
Responsibilities:
- The corporate research specialist supports the corporate department's research needs, and may assist
corporate lawyers in other offices and geographies as well, working with a local and virtual team of colleagues.
- Provides extensive legal, corporate and business research and reference services for attorneys, staff, and
research for detailed information on companies, individuals, and/or industries.
- Search databases for securities, exemplars, mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, venture
financings, private equity and Blue Sky matters.
- Perform customized research and complex literature searches in a very cost-effective manner.
- Attends and participates in practice departmental meetings and proactively follows-up. Monitors corporate
legal and business developments to provide continuing coverage of issues and follow-up on research assignments.
Maintains awareness of current developments and keeps attorneys updated.
- Takes shifts on busy research desk.
- Review various sources of information for reliability, relevance, and cost-effectiveness, and choose best
sources for answering research requests.
- Participates in collection development by selecting material in corporate and securities. Collection
development includes choosing appropriate sites for the R&I portal and identifying and reviewing new products.
- Provide orientation and training sessions regarding R&I procedures, resources, and databases.
- Completes special projects, R&I newsletter and Morning Report input.
Qualifications:
- MLS/MLIS/MSL or Master's of Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited school.
- Five years of corporate or law library experience.
- Excellent corporate research, reference, and database searching skills.
- Experience with Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg, OneSource, LivEdgar (Westlaw Business), Capital IQ, VentureSource,
MergerMarket.
- Proficient with MS Office and information technology.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and multitask assignments, and to approach problems with a
sense of ownership, enthusiasm, and innovation in a collaborative team environment.
