Loyola Law School, located in downtown Los Angeles, is accepting applications for the position of Reference Librarian. Reporting to the Head of Reference Services, the Reference Librarian assists legal researchers in effectively understanding and using new and existing resources, technologies and library services. Specific duties include:

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Working with assigned faculty to monitor research interests and support teaching and scholarship
  • Developing and teaching legal research instructional classes in formal and informal instructional settings
  • Preparing research guides and other instructional materials in print and electronic formats
  • Participating in the reference desk rotation approximately 11 to 15 hours per week (including occasional evening and weekend shifts)
  • Participating in the library’s social media and web presence

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have experience working in an academic law library, exceptional written and oral communications skills, and a strong service orientation. The candidate should have a mastery of basic legal research sources and techniques using both print and electronic materials, knowledge of current information technologies, and be proficient in searching legal and non-legal databases. The candidate must be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
