The Florida International University College of Law seeks a well-qualified law librarian to work under the direction of its Director of the Law Library to build a research-caliber law school library. This position seeks an experienced librarian to grow a young law collection of print and electronic resources, and the systems, procedures, and staff needed to support it.
Florida International University is a diverse, public research university serving 35,000 students. Its College of Law was unanimously established by the Florida Legislature in the Spring of 2000. The College of Law enrolled its inaugural class in the Fall of 2002 and offers full and part-time programs leading to the J.D. Degree. The College of Law is fully accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).
The Catalog & Bibliographic Control Librarian will be responsible for all aspects of the law library's technical services, except for acquisitions and serials, needed to support and provide access to the library's print and electronic information resources. This librarian will be working most closely with the Serials and Acquisitions Librarian in supervising the technical services department.
Responsibilities include original and copy cataloging, classification of information in all formats, authority work, cataloging and processing of new materials, review of departmental policies and procedures, use of the FlU University Libraries' integrated library system (ALEPH), and working with University Libraries and Information Technology personnel to coordinate law library operations and procedures with the University's operations. The Catalog and Bibliographic Control Librarian will supervise paraprofessional and student staff assistants working on technical services tasks. In addition, the Catalog and Bibliographic Control Librarian takes the lead role in the upkeep and maintenance of the Library's archives.
The state university libraries recently completed their migration to Ex-Libris' ALEPH system including a recent upgrade to version 18. The Catalog and Bibliographic Control Librarian will play a major role in continued ALEPH upgrades, possible future migrations and in coordinating implementation or maintenance of future products.
The Catalog and Bibliographic Control Librarian has a central role in ensuring patron access to electronic information, including providing catalog and website links to web based information sources and remote access issues. This librarian will compile and maintain statistics, including the important statistical reports required for accreditation and state reporting purposes. The Catalog and Bibliographic Control Librarian may be asked to provide some reference duties when the library is open to patrons.
Required:
M.L.S., M.L.I.S., or equivalent from ALA-accredited school
Knowledge of MARC format and records; AACR2 rules, LCSH/LC classification and cataloging, preferably with law resources
At least five years of professional or technical services experience, preferably in a
Law library
High quality communication, interpersonal and organizational skills -Self-starter who

The Reference Librarian is responsible for providing reference service using print, electronic and online resources. Responsibilities:

Qualifications: Knowledge of traditional and computerized legal research techniques, including experience with Lexis, Loislaw, Westlaw, and Internet resources. Basic computer skills required. Demonstrated abilities in written and oral communication. Ability to meet the requirements for promotion and tenure. Strong service attitude, ability to work independently and as part of the Public Services Department, and pride in one's work product. Position holder must be able to perform all duties listed, which involve communicating effectively with patrons, answering telephones, reading call numbers and Library materials, teaching, using a computer for various purposes, and bending and lifting in accessing materials throughout the Law Library.

Description of Library Unit: The NCCU School of Law was founded in 1939 to provide an opportunity for a legal education to African-Americans. The School of Law now provides this opportunity to a more diverse student body than any other in the nation, as it pertains to race and gender. This environment of diversity better prepares our students to effect positive change in the broader society. The student body consists of 604 students and 34 faculty members.
The Law Library serves the law school faculty and students as their basic library and study resource for teaching and research. Heavy use of the Law Library is made by community people and members of the bench and bar. The NCCU School of Law Library's more than 360 volumes and volume equivalents are offered in print, electronic and microformat. Its collection of cases, statutes, journals, loose-leaf services, treatises, electronic resources, legal videotapes, shared resources and cooperative agreements with other libraries provides the legal resources needed to meet the pedagogical, research and scholarship requirements of the Law School's students and faculty. The Library is a selective North Carolina and United States Government Depository, has a special collection in Civil Rights Law, and supports the J.D. /M.L.S. and J.D. /M.B.A. dual degree programs. Additional collection strengths include intellectual property, small business administration and environmental law. The Law Library has 7 professional librarians and 9 support personnel.
Position Duties: The Collection Development Librarian is primarily responsible for providing leadership in the development, implementation, maintenance and review of collection development policies and practices, including policies on selection, retention, weeding, replacement of missing materials and evaluation of gifts. S/he will assess the collection's strengths and weaknesses in all formats within the scope of the library's collection development policy, review, analyze and select new and existing print and electronic resources. The librarian will also evaluate and recommend cancellations and withdrawals of library materials. S/he will provide extensive reference and research services primarily to the law school and university communities. The librarian will work closely with faculty to monitor research and curricular developments and consult with faculty to ensure that the library's collection development efforts support the law curriculum and faculty research interests. S/he will teach Legal Research and Persuasion. Some evening and weekend hours are required.
Qualifications: Required: MLS from an ALA accredited library school, Juris Doctor Degree from an ABA accredited law school; familiarity with current trends in legal publishing, education, and research. Familiarity with print and electronic resources, knowledge of the U. S. legal information market, substantial legal research skills, and experience with electronic information technology are required. Candidates must exhibit strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, and must be able to develop productive working relationships and work as an effective team member as well as independently. S/he must have 3-5 years relevant teaching experience.
Preferences: Demonstrated teaching ability and a record of scholarship are desirable. Prior academic law library experience (3-5 years).

Georgetown University Law Library invites applications for the position of Reference Librarian. Georgetown University Law Center is one of the premier law schools in the world. The Reference Librarian provides extensive reference service to the Law Center's faculty and students by participating in the reference desk rotation, individual research consultations, writing research guides, and participating in other law library instructional programs as needed. The Reference Librarian is expected to actively participate in the intellectual life and administrative activities of the Law Center. The successful applicant will fulfill the responsibilities of the position in a superior manner, and in doing so grow professionally in knowledge, expertise, effectiveness, and where appropriate, scholarship.
Required: M.L.S. degree from an ALA-accredited library school; knowledge of legal materials, and excellent communications skills.
Preferred: J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or significant law library experience.
Experience with legal research materials, including online legal databases. Awareness of current trends in legal research, library automation and library instructional programs. Preferably one to three years of professional experience in a law or academic library, and experience with teaching legal research. Experience with or training in empirical research methods and statistics preferred.

The Duke Law Library is seeking an experienced reference librarian to join our team of skilled law-trained professionals working in a research-oriented, technologically innovative environment. In addition to teaching legal research and other reference responsibilities, the position will coordinate the Library's Faculty Research Assistants Program and participate in special projects, including an exciting new initiative in empirical legal research, in support of faculty teaching and scholarship.
Responsibilities: Reference Librarians at Duke work as a team of skilled and experienced law-trained professionals to:
-provide extensive reference and research services to a sophisticated and research-oriented faculty and student body;
-work actively with assigned faculty to monitor research interests and support teaching and scholarship;
-train and work with student research assistants and student journal editors;
-teach first year legal research within an integrated legal research and writing course, and conduct research workshops, advanced research classes and instruction in other forums
-author research guides and other instructional and promotional materials in print and electronic formats;
-participate in developing the library's web presence; and
-participate in collection development.
This position will have primary responsibility for the Library's Faculty Research Assistants Program. The Research Assistants Program provides law students opportunities to work on research projects with faculty, under librarian supervision. The Congressional Research Service (CRS) seeks a Supervisory Librarian to serve as Head of the Government and Finance Section within the Knowledge Services Group (KSG). The Section works closely with the Government and Finance Division (G&F), the CRS research division that responds to requests for public policy analysis in issue areas including federal tax policy; banking and insurance policy; federal fiscal and monetary policy; the organization and operation of Congress; the organization and management of the federal executive and judicial branches of government; the congressional budget and appropriations process; American intergovernmental relations and federal grants-in-aid programs; elections and campaign finance laws; and the structure and operations of American political parties.
In support of the CRS mission of service to Congress, information professionals in the KSG advise and inform both the US Congress and CRS analytical staff by providing expert on-demand information research, information products and resources, product updating, information resource management, briefings and seminars, consultations on research methodologies, and customized training on information research and resources for individuals and groups.
The Supervisory Librarian is responsible for effectively managing staff in order to accomplish the work of the unit; anticipating and identifying the changing needs of Congress by keeping informed of the work; using knowledgeable contacts and authoritative resources; collaborating with other CRS managers; and developing information products and services that best meet the needs of congressional clients and CRS research divisions. The incumbent is granted a high degree of independence, exercising considerable judgment in carrying out duties and responsibilities in accordance with industry best practices and CRS guidelines and policies.
