SFALL Through the Years

1995-1996 Chapter Activity Report for the Law Library Journal

SFALL had a successful year. The tradition of bimonthly brown-bag lunch meetings was continued. Our program topics included "New Frontiers in Cyberspace: Freenets," "Issues in Immigration Law," and "Law Libraries and Librarians: Metamorphosis through Innovation." We also supported the Dade County Library Association Workshop in March; its topic was "Transitional Challenges and Organizational Culture."

In December our annual Christmas dinner party meeting was held at Rustic Inn's Barge Room, with Warren Bateman, a founding member of SFALL who paid for the first Christmas Party, underwriting most of the cost of this one, too, as he anticipated retiring. It was our most successful party, with sixty-seven attending.

The June meeting is always a lovely luncheon featuring end-of-year reports, installation of new officers, and a speaker from the AALL Board - this year it was Ann Puckett, who updated us on happenings at AALL and asked us to share our concerns.

The chapter newsletter was edited by Richard Korman, who did a great job of producing it bimonthly before meetings. The University of Miami Law Library covered the mailing of the newsletter for us. Claire Donnelly Membiela was editor of our directory, distributing it to all members. Karen Mahnk has been working on a union list for this region.

Virginia Thomas, Bylaw chair, has been working with her committee on a revision of the constitution and bylaws. Linda Datko has been keeping our archives. June Berger was in charge of placement requests and June Woodard chaired nominations. Jack McNeill took care of public relations and government affairs for the chapter.

Officers for 1996-97 are Jack McNeill, President; Claire Donnelly Membiela, Vice-President/President Elect; Sally Haff, Treasurer; and Brian Williams, Secretary.
