Cancellations: Stories from the Chopping Block
In times of budget uncertainties and inflationary pressures, cancellations are on the rise. In this presentation, our experts will discuss the cancellation process from beginning to end. We will analyze the selection and collection development aspects, including identifying titles, negotiating and seeking input from constituencies, tracking the budget, and monitoring impacts on curriculum and research. Then we will cover the nuts and bolts of cancellations from instituting tracking mechanisms and maintaining documentation to monitoring credits and returning material. We will conclude with a town hall session soliciting questions and input from the audience to facilitate collaborative learning and best practices on the cancellation process. See more information on the Program Page. -

Victoria's mild weather in October makes it an excellent tourist destination for those who may wish to extend their stay. The annual meeting will be held next to the inner harbour, close to the Empress Hotel and the provincial legislature, and is a short trip away from the world famous Butchart Gardens, and the scenic gulf islands. October is the off-season for tourism, so it is also a good time to take an extended vacation to Pacific Rim National Park. There are also many other options to explore some of the cultural side of the Island, such as First Nations and colonial history, accessible though museums, galleries, and tours. Many family-friendly options exist.
And to answer two of the most frequently asked questions: Victoria is the capital of the province of British Columbia and is located on Vancouver Island, only reachable by air or water. The City of Vancouver is located on the mainland of British Columbia and will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. Victoria is not, unless cricket, darts, and lawn bowling suddenly become Olympic sports.
