WestPac Election - Candidate for Treasurer

Peter Howard, State of Oregon Law Library & Willamette College of Law Library

I am thankful to have been nominated for WestPac Treasurer. I have been a WestPac member since 2011 and am serving in my second year on the Education Committee. Last fall I attended the annual meeting in Utah where I was fortunate to have met many fellow WestPacians. As a relatively new member to the law library profession, I have found the support and camaraderie of our regional community an invaluable resource. Serving as an officer for WestPac in support of our members and professional mission would be an honor.

As the Reference Librarian at the State of Oregon Law Library and a part-time Reference Librarian at the Willamette College of Law Library, I provide reference and research support, maintain the State Law Library Website and employee Intranet sites, train Judicial Department and state employees on how to use online resources, and assist with the development of our Library’s collection. Additionally, I volunteer on L-Net, Oregon’s virtual libraries network, and am co-presenting on the topic of virtual legal reference in an upcoming Oregon conference.

If I were elected as WestPac Treasurer, I would put my professional enthusiasm to work for our chapter. I understand the importance of accurately maintaining the records of our business accounts, budgeting, and providing periodic balance reports to members. I would carry out these tasks dutifully. While I do not have any prior experience in accounting, I can attest that I did pass Fed Tax on the first try and, this year, TurboTax reported that my personal tax filings were at “Low Risk” for an audit.
