WPLLA 2004-5 Annual Report
Marguerita Young-Jones, President

WPLLA had a very productive year thanks to the officers, committees and members. Several goals were accomplished. The organization became more active, we were able to attract several new members, quality programs were brought to our members, the newsletter was revived as well as the Legal Research Review Series for Summer Associates.

After the fall meeting, a survey was sent to the membership.to find out about the needs of the members. This survey helped the officers understand what they were doing right and what needed to be improved. It helped to make our goals a reality.

The Programming/CLE Committeee, headed by Louise Beswick, was very busy. There were several programs offered and well attended, including a presentation by University of Pittsburgh School of Law Professor Bernard J. Hibbits on how JURIST can help organizations stay on top of legal developments.

Other programs included Copyright and Fair Use in Libraries and on the Internet presented by Kimberly Pierson, a Reed Smith IP attorney; Knowledge Management: A Practical Discussion presented by Ann Unger with Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote and Michele Smith with the West Group; Generational Issues in the Workplace presented by Gayle Lynn-Nelson, Lexis-Nexis Librarian Relations Consultant; and Advanced Web Searching presented by Linda Tashbook with the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

In May, the membership ended the year with a bang at Atria’s at PNC Park.. Everyone enjoyed the dinner, Pirate’s game and fireworks. We were honored to have as a speaker AALL Secretary, Catherine Lemann. Her visit was inspiring and enjoyed by all. Dr. Joel Fishman with Duquesne University/Allegheny County law Library was presented a Certificate of Appreciation for his dedicated service and loyalty to WPLLA.

The Legal Research Review Series for Summer Associate started in June and consisted of four programs at various firms within the City of Pittsburgh. They were well attended by approximately 50 Summer Associates and Law Clerks.

The incoming officers for 2006-06 are Louise Beswick, President; Sonya Koros, Vice President/President Elect, Michele Kristakis, Treasurer; Mary Stacy, Secretary; Marguerita Young-Jones, Immediate Past President; and Barbara Cage and Linda Tashbook, executive board members.
