Executive Orders

Governors issue executive orders. These orders often deal with the establishment of new state boards and commissions, effect the existing organization of state agencies, and the reassignment of administrative duties. Executive orders may also affect the allocation of government funds for state agencies and policies and procedures. Many states publish executive orders in their administrative registers.

Louisiana, http://www.doa.state.la.us/osr/other/exord.htm

This site scores well on several points:

  • access to the executive orders is logical and direct
    • From the initial page, click on Governor's Office, scroll down the page, click on Executive Orders.
  • the executive orders are listed chronologically and are searchable, with Boolean and proximity operators
  • coverage extends from 1992 through 1996
  • last date modified and an email address for comments are provided
  • most documents are in ASCII, with some in PDF
  • relationship to the administrative register is implied, suggesting that the register may be a source for earlier executive orders.

Another site worthy of investigation is Colorado, http://www.state.co.us/gov_dir/govnr_dir/exec_orders/index.htm
