AALL Centennial Celebration Toolkit:
Poster Design/Contests
Want to involve students, librarians, and library staff in an event as a national library week or banned books week, or relate information? Have a contest for your patrons or ask for suggestions for informational posters from your patrons.
Basic Poster Design and Placement
- Keep the poster simple.
- If announcing a contest, state where the rules can be found.
- Don't overload the poster with excess graphics, or information.
- If more than one poster, keep the same color scheme.
- Place/hang posters in high traffic areas.
- Do not use very tiny or difficult to read print. Make the type and font easy on the eyes.
Contests to Sponsor
- National Library Week
- Banned Book Week
- Naming of room, area, library publication
- The amendments, legal history and important dates.
Get students involved by asking upper class students their opinions on what are the important features of the law library. Create informational posters for the incoming 1Ls and post in the library. Should you get you too many useful suggestions from the upper class students, hold a contest and select the top few to go on the posters. Have a contest and create poster too.
Remember to keep your posters and contests, easy on the eyes, clear instructions or information, and placed in strategic spots in the library.
How many posters or contests can you envision?
