CRIV Charge

The committee shall facilitate communications between information vendors and the members of the American Association of Law Libraries and the Executive Board in matters relating to provision of information in any format.

The committee shall monitor complaints and provide constructive suggestions to vendors.

The committee shall foster a cooperative working relationship between librarians and information vendors.

The committee shall keep the membership informed of developments in legal publishing.

The committee represents the interests of all librarians, and neither it nor its members will represent or advocate for the benefit of any one publisher or information vendor.

CRIV Site Visits

Site visits are designed to help CRIV meet several elements of its charge:

  • "foster positive, constructive and open communication between information vendors and the membership of AALL in matters relating to provision of information in any format;"
  • "serve as a forum and resource to provide constructive suggestions to vendors;"
  • "foster a cooperative working relationship between librarians and information vendors;"

"The Committee represents the interests of all AALL members, and neither it nor its members will represent or advocate for the benefit of only one publisher or information vendor when acting in their capacity as committee members."

Site visits are used to explore publisher-specific issues with high-ranking representatives of the company. The visits also offer an opportunity to exchange information and develop communication lines that help us ensure a productive working relationship between the publisher and law librarians far into the future.  Site visits have become one of CRIV's most valuable activities.
