Subject: CRIV Gram: Rescission of FTC Guides for Law Book Industry

CRIV Gram - January 20, 2000 - The Federal Trade Commission has announced that it has rescinded the Guides for the Law Book Industry. The Federal Register announcement appeared in the January 19, 2000 Federal Register.

When the FTC first requested comments on the Guides last spring, AALL, through CRIV and the Government Affairs Office, sent a detailed letter which strongly supported the existence of the Guides. We also made proposed several amendments that would have made them more relevent to electronic formats and other developments in legal publishing. A copy of the letter is
available through the CRIV Page:

CRIV has continued, with the assistance of the Washington Affairs Office, to monitor developments regarding the Guides. We are currently trying to contact the FTC for more information on their decision. We will keep the membership posted as we learn more.
