2001-Effective Communication in a Diverse Society

The Committee on Diversity's 5th Annual Symposium will be held in Minneapolis, MN on Saturday, July 14th 2001 from 1:00pm - 5:00pm. The annual Symposiums are an opportunity for AALL members to come together and discuss the many critical issues related to diversity in society. The topic of this year's Symposium is on Effective Communication in a Diverse Society.  Iris M. Lee, George Washington University Jacob Burns Law Library will moderate the event.

Claudia Monte of CAM Consulting Services will speak at the symposium.  Our society's new reality presents the opportunity and challenge of highly diverse people working together to accomplish organizational goals. Special challenges exist to communication in a diverse environment. Through understanding and effective dialogue, people can respect the diverse nature of others and capitalize on the energy and talent that every person has to offer. In this interactive session, participants will learn the impact of diversity on communication in the workplace and will discuss ways to overcome barriers, understand cultural differences, and develop productive relationships. The program's goal is to recognize the challenges inherent to out increasingly diverse workforce and to learn strategies for resolving barriers caused by ineffective communication.

The Diversity Reception will be held  from 5:30 p.m.- 7:30 pm. There is no charge for the Symposium or the Reception, but reservations are requested, due to space constraints. Please register on your AALL Conference Registration Form. You may register late by faxing a written request to Pam Reisinger at AALL Headquarters at 312-431-1097.
