Fair Business Practices Implementation Task Force

Charge and Size

The AALL Guide to Fair Business Practices for Legal Publishers were approved at the Fall 2002 meeting of the Executive Board. The Guide is the result of the work of the Fair Business Practices Special Committee that was charged to draft guidelines to replace the Guides for the Law Book Industry (16 C.F.R. pt. 256) rescinded by the Federal Trade Commission on January 19, 2000.

In consideration of the Fair Business Practices Special Committee’s recommendation for a standing committee, the Executive Board also approved appointment of the Fair Business Practices Implementation Task Force to guide the distribution and promotion of the AALL Guide to Fair Business Practices for Legal Publishers as the accepted standard in the industry.

Additionally, the Fair Business Practices Implementation Task Force is charged with the responsibility for monitoring the ongoing interpretation, revision, promotion, and evaluation of the AALL Guide to Fair Business Practices for Legal Publishers and shall work cooperatively with the Committee on Relations with Information Vendors as appropriate.

Size: The Special Committee will consist of a Chair and four members. The members will be appointed by the President and serve until July, 2006. A non-voting Executive Board liaison will be appointed.
