SEATTLE 2003 DINING GUIDE

Seattle offers visitors a great variety of dining experiences. While here, take a few moments to step beyond the boundaries of the convention center and your hotel to sample the fresh tastes of Northwest food, tipple a Microbrew, enjoy one of many ethnic cuisines, and of course, drink COFFEE.

Grab a bite in between meetings and exhibition hall viewings at Cyber-dogs , a vegetarian fast-food place which describes itself as "a frisky Internet café and software engineering community."

Or, if you are looking for a grand burrito at affordable prices, Taco del Mar, at 725 Pike Street, Suite 5 is another fine fast-food spot in the Convention Center. Choose from fish, beans or meat fillings. Click here for a menu.

Just across the street at 700 Pike Street is the Cheesecake Factory with a 200+ item menu. Basic American food, but there should be something for every picky eater. It is a busy place so make reservations! 652-5400

Dragonfish at 722 Pine Street is an upbeat restaurant and bar featuring Asian dishes. Try the lettuce cups for an appetizer. Prices range from $12-$25. Reservations. 467-7777, fax: 467-8891 or by email .

The Palace Kitchen, just a short distance from the Convention Center at 2030 5th Ave., run by chef Tom Douglas, is a Northwest must-taste. Upscale. Open for lunch and dinner. All cards accepted. Casual dining. Reservations by phone 448-2001 or fax 448-1979.

Other close-by choices are the No Boundaries Cafe  93 Pike Street, #204. or the Pike Street Cafe 1400 6th Ave., Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant at 600 Pike Street, Suite 601, or smart Italian food at Il Fornaio, 600 Pine Street, in Pacific Place, at the corner of 6th and Olive.

The Seattle Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has recommended several Restaurants with meeting spaces .

Vegetarian and Vegan Choices

The Teapot Vegetarian House located at 125 15th Avenue E. just up on Capital Hill features Asian, vegan and kosher all at the same time! Reservations 325-1010. Delivery to limited area 5-10 p.m. Open daily 11:30 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. 

Von’s Grand City Café rated 5 stars by frequent diners at dinesite.com.  619 Pine Street . Reservations. 621-8667

Bacco 86 Pine Street

Sound View Café – Open for breakfast and lunch, but NOT dinner. Right in the Market! 1501 Pike Place.

Functional Fuel is located at 1303 First Avenue in the Harbor Steps Complex. Described as “quick-serve”, low fat and elegant.

The Bamboo Garden is on Queen Anne close to the Seattle Cente at 364 Roy. It is Chinese Asian, kosher and vegan. Reservations. 282-6616.

Café Flora is nestled in the Madison Park/Madrona neighborhood at 2901 E. Madison St. A little pricey, but really worth the trip. Reservations at 325-9100

Café Ambrosia is located in the Lake Union neighborhood at 2501 Fairview Ave. N. just north and a little west of downtown. Café Ambrosia boasts organic wines, seasonal dishes with international touches. 325-7111

Rooms with Views

Palisade offers “high concept” meals, features northwest and Asian cuisines and a panoramic view. It is located at the Elliott Bay Marina at 2601 West Marina Place. 285-1000.

Ray’s Boathouse is a Seattle institution. It has always been the place to take visitors, if not for dinner then at least a drink and sunset watching. 6049 Seaview North. Northwest cuisine and fine seafood. 789-4130.

Salty’s On Alki at 1936 Harbor Avenue S.W offers a big view of the sound and the city. For reservations dial 937-1600.

SkyCity At the Needle – Of course, a trip to Seattle is not complete without a trip to “the Needle.” The elevator ride and views are spectacular but so are the prices. The Needle is located at Seattle Center at 400 Broad Street. If you do go, reservations can be had at 905-9111.

Bell Street Diner - 2201 Alaskan Way. Great fish, great view. Moderate prices. And, upstairs for more view and more $$, try Anthony's at Pier 66 . One phone number works for both at 448-6688.

Canlis Restaurant is a very special occasion restaurant. Views of Lake Union and the Cascade mountains. Valet parking. Semi-formal (ties, jackets required for gentlemen). $$$ 2576 Aurora Ave N. Reservations 283-3313.

Cutters Bayhouse is just at the northwestern tip of the Market at 2001 Western Ave. and in trendy Belltown at the same time. Good seafood, steaks. Yes, good views. 448-4884

Burgers, Burgers

Red Mill Burgers is a delightful place which should satisfy anyone on a burger quest. They serve beef, chicken and garden burgers with all the fixings (shakes, sodas, fries, onion rings) plus other delicious sandwiches. Two locations in Seattle: Phinney Ridge neighborhood at 312 N. 67th Street (206) 783-6362 or in Magnolia/Interbay at 1613 W. Dravus Street (206) 284-6363. Casual!

Red Robin Restaurants, although now a franchise, began here in Seattle.  Red Robin is a family restaurant which also tries to please the outrageous drinks crowd.
