Annual Reports of the Public Relations Committee

1994-1995

1994-1995 Public Relations Committee (Advisory)

The Committee had a productive year in 1994-95. It cosponsored the "Public Relations Poster Session" at the 1995 Annual Meeting with Public Relations Coordinator Hazel Johnson, Margaret Fry serving as co-coordinator. Tobin Sparling assisted Johnson in setting up a public relations clearinghouse for AALL chapters. In response to a directive in AALL's 1994-98 Strategic Challenge, Claire Germain worked with the Technical Services SIS to explore the creation of cataloging samples for library schools.

The AALL Executive Board approved the creation of a Public Relations Award to replace the Law Library Publications Award. A subcommittee of Merle Slyhoff, Janice Shull, Laura Hyzy, and Tobin Sparling evaluated thirteen print entries and one nonprint entry. Three finalists in print and one in nonprint were forwarded to the AALL Awards Committee for final selection. The first Public Relations Award were presented at the 1995 Annual Meeting.

The Committee assisted the Task Force on AALL's Public Relations Program in conducting a member survey on the Association's public relations program. The results were used in the Task Force's report and recommendations to the AALL Executive Board.

The Executive Board adopted the recommendations of the Task Force on AALL's Public Relations program, one of which was to disband the Advisory Committee and create a standing committee.
