ALLUNY: Association of Law Libraries of Upstate New York XVII. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE 1996-97 ALLUNY Bylaws, page 33. 1. It is the responsibility of the Public Relations Chair to devise the means of publicizing the field of law librarianship and specifically the work of ALLUNY on both the state and national level. 2. The Chair will design, maintain and distribute ALLUNY public relations materials such as the chapter brochure. As appropriate, estimated costs should be communicated to the Board for approval. 3. The Chair answers requests from non-members for information about the Association and its activities. 4. The Chair will work with the Chairs of the Membership and Newsletter Committees, as well as the library school liaisons to the New York state library schools, to promote the work of the organization. 5. The Chair will publicize chapter activities through:
6. The Chair will update the list of contact persons for each of the general, business, and legal newspapers serving updated New York. (see appendix.) Information to be included shall be name, address, telephone and fax numbers as well as deadline dates and any specific submission requirements. 7. The Chair coordinates the exhibits/sale of ALLUNY public relations, promotional and other materials at local, regional, or national meetings, including:
Public Relations Committee PURPOSE: Responsible for promoting AzALL and its services and events.
COMPOSITION: This Committee is composed of a Chairperson and two or three additional members. DUTIES: 1) Propose methods of informing both the local and library communities and the community at large about law librarians and law librarianship. 2) Explore further opportunities for displaying AzALL or AALL exhibits, such as at college "career days"; at local library organization conferences and at other legal Association meetings held in the Phoenix area. 3) Explore ways to work with the local Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA). 4) Arrange staffing, in conjunction with AALL Headquarters, for the AALL booth whenever it is exhibited in Phoenix. 5) Revise, update and make printing arrangements for the AzALL Brochure and its annual insert. 6) Meet with the Membership Committee to discuss and coordinate AzALL membership drives and publicity and to arrange for the distribution of the AzALL Brochure. 7) Design and print AzALL Business Cards to be given to prospective AzALL members. CHAIR: 1) Calls and presides at the Committee's meetings. 2) In the event the Liaison is not at a particular meeting, informs him/her of activities. 3) At least once a year, reports on Committee progress in the AzALL Newsletter and appears before the Board to report on progress or problems and to observe the Board in session. 4) Writes an official Annual Report of the Committee's activities with suggestions of changes, problems, or ideas to pass to the next Chairperson. 5) Updates and makes corrections to Committee pages in the AzALL Handbook for Officers and Committee Chairs; returns revised Handbook to the Secretary at the Annual Meeting. (The Handbook will be supplied to the Chair by the President.) 6) Forwards copies of all official documents to the Archives Committee, particularly seminar materials. CALL: Chicago Association of Law Libraries [CALL Handbook for Officers and Committee Chairs - 2002-2003, p.27, available in PDF format at http://www.aallnet.org/chapter/call/publications/callhandbook.pdf] PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE This committee is composed of two chairpersons and two or more committee members who: 1) Inform both the legal and library communities about law librarians and their activities. 2) Place photographs and announcements in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and explore other possible publishing ventures. 3) Explore ways to publicize CALL and its members' accomplishments. 4) Chairs act as liaison to AALL Public Relations Committee. 5) Work with Placement & Recruitment Committee to publicize law librarianship at such events as college "career days", at local library organization conferences and at other legal association meetings held in the Chicago area. 6) Review and update information on the CALL brochure and make recommendations to the Board. 7) Submit articles to "Chapter News Column" column in the AALL Newsletter. 8) Take pictures at CALL functions. 10) The chairperson is responsible for fulfilling the duties of committee chairperson as listed on page 18 of this Handbook. DALL: Dallas Association of Law Librarians PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE DALL Procedures Manual 1. The Committee coordinates DALL's public relations activities, and designs and/or updates the DALL Brochure, the DALL Procedures Manual, and other DALL publications as necessary. 2. The Committee publishes individual law library's public relations activities in an ongoing column of the DALL Advance Sheet and sends public relations releases about DALL to AALL Headquarters. 3. The Committee collects and maintains DALL publications and forms. 4. The Committee is responsible for the DALL Archives and for implementing and updating the archival guidelines. 5. The Committee evaluates the need for and makes recommendations to the Executive Board regarding publications projects. 6. The Chairperson is responsible for submitting items that represent DALL's history and activities to the DALL Archives. 7. The Committee coordinates publicity for the DALL Institutes and maintains a current contact list. The Contact list includes individuals and associations that will be invited to attend DALL activities. 8. The Chairperson is responsible for updating its Board liaison of Committee business. 9. The Chair person is responsible for submitting an annual report of Committee business to the Newsletter Editor for publication in the June DALL Advance Sheet. LLSDC: Law Librarians Society of Washington D.C., Inc. Public Relations Committee LLSDC Procedures Manual May, 1996, pg. 64. Purpose. The Public Relations Committee promotes the fundamental objectives of the society by increasing public understanding and support of law libraries and law librarianship; by stimulating public interest through encouraging the use of law library services and making legal information more accessible; and by enhancing the image of the profession.. Procedures. 1. At the discretion of the President, the Committee answers written and telephone requests from the legal community and others about the Society, its activities, and law librarianship in general. 2. The Committee promotes and maintains working relationships with other library organizations, law schools and library schools, appropriate library-related government agencies, the academic and business communities, and with local bar associations. 3. The Committee is responsible for publicizing Society activities, resources and services by means of local media, newsletters, brochures, local bar publications and brief consultations. 4. The Committee produces a general brochure describing the Society and its activities, and updates this as needed. In particular, the brochure should include mention of the Society's Consulting Committee services (see that Committee's section in this Manual for details). 5. The Chair solicits information regarding local bar association and legal administrator exhibitions. Costs and other details associated with the Society exhibiting to such forums should be presented to the Board far enough in advance of the event so that it may decide whether to authorize an exhibit. LLAGNY: Law Library Association of Greater New York PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE LLAGNY Procedures Manual Purpose To promote the fundamental objectives of LLAGNY by increasing public support and understanding of law libraries and law librarianship; by stimulating public interest through encouraging the use of law library services and making legal information more Accessible and by enhancing the image of the profession. Procedures 1. Answers telephone and written requests from the legal community and others about the Association, its activities, and law librarianship in general. 2. Establishes and maintains open and effective working relations with other library organizations, law and library schools and members of the government, academic, and business communities. 3. Informs our various publics of chapter activities, resources and services by means of local media, newsletters, brochures, state bar publications and brief consulting services. 4. Notify NYC legal newspapers of upcoming meetings, specifically the NYLJ, to promote the CLE of LLAGNY. LLAW: Law Library Association of Wisconsin LLAW Procedures
Manual (Revised: May 2001) THE PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE CHAIR: 1. Must be an active member of the chapter. 2. Attends all chapter membership and board of directors meetings. 3. Appoints committee members for his/her term as chair jointly with the incoming president. Due attention should be paid to the number of members needed for effective operation, geographical distribution, distribution by type of library, and level of skill and experience required. Notifies committee members of their appointment. 4. Submits goals and budget for the coming year to the president and the newsletter editor by June 30. 5. Submits an annual report of committee activities for the calendar year in which he/she was chair to the president and the newsletter editor by May 1. 6. Is prepared to report orally on committee activities as called upon at any membership meeting. If unable to attend, is responsible for arranging in advance for a representative to present the report. 7. Publicizes LLAW meetings and programs via various communication media with the purpose of increasing our membership and creating a positive awareness of our profession. Maintains a current list of media contracts. 8. Becomes familiar with area communication media and forwards information as appropriate. This may include announcements of forthcoming meetings, summaries of previous meetings and announcements of election results. 9. Forwards appropriate press releases to professional publications on a national, regional and local level. 10. Develops and ensures good liaison relationships with related professional groups and institutions. 11. Maintains a current descriptive brochure for LLAW. 12. Prepares and distributes information to appropriate area associations, groups, etc. promoting the services and activities of the chapter. 13. Arranges for public relations booths in the exhibit areas of appropriate conferences, including AALL Annual Meeting, the WLA Annual Conference, and the State Bar of Wisconsin Midwinter Meeting. 14. Submits requests for funds in writing, with applicable receipts, to the treasurer. Where no invoice or receipt exists, issue a memo to the treasurer explaining the incurred expense. Unusual expenses will be taken by the treasurer to the president or board of directors for approval. 15. Maintains any records as necessary during the year and turns this material over at the end of the year to the chapter archives or to the incoming chair as appropriate. MAALL:

Work with the Program and Membership Committee Chairs, as well as other Committee Chairs, to provide news releases of their activities. d. Send details to the following organizations' publications about SCALL's programs as soon as informed by the Program, Institute and Education Committees:

Send news items about Association activities to the AALL Newsletter editor for chapter activities, to Martha Brown at Headquarters for the Continuing Education calendar, and to notify AALL Newsletter of changes in offices and/or chairships during the year by the next AALL Newsletter deadline. g. Maintain SCALL Public Relations materials such as: brochures, banner, pencils, etc. for distribution to members as needed. i. Arrange for transportation of the materials to and from Regional and National meetings, as well as conferences or programs in which SCALL is a participant. j. August 1998 Public Relations Committee 1. The Committee coordinates the public relations efforts of SWALL and works with other Chapters within the SWALL geographic area. 2.
