RLLC Committee Meeting Minutes

July 15, 2003
Attending: Mark Bernstein, Kathleen Carrick, Robert Marshall, Bonnie Shucha, and Christopher Vallandingham

  1. Mark briefly summarized the accomplishments of the prior year which are highlighted in the annual report. The report was distributed to committee members and is expected to be published in a subsequent edition of Law Library Journal. Among the major accomplishments were the revision of the web site which led to inquiries from prospective librarians across the country and a feature issue in Spectrum on law librarianship. The Board also approved the current structure of the committee.
  2. Initiatives and ideas were discussed for the coming year. The following volunteer assignments were agreed upon:
    1. Bonnie will continue to update the web site and serve as the webmaster for the committee.
    2. Mark will/has contacted other chairs to seek a joint letter to the board from recruitment, placement, mentoring, etc to ask for free registration for students attending the annual meeting. The committee felt this would increase the number of people able to attend each year.
    3. Kathy will check with Student Lawyer and Chris will check with ABA journal about possible articles about law librarianship and recruitment.
    4. Robert was going to check on library school curricula and see what schools offered courses(?)

The group also felt it would be useful to identify schools that offered or did not offer courses in law librarianship and identify members who could contact those schools and ask to speak at brown bag lunches or similar talks.

A future meeting will be held by conference call sometime in the fall.
