2008 AALL Annual Meeting and Conference

Legislative Advocacy Leadership Training

Saturday, July 12 • 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Oregon Convention Center

This practical half-day workshop, available at no cost to AALL members, will teach important new skills to enable participants to become effective communicators when dealing with federal, state and local policy makers. This opportunity is open on a first-come, first-served basis to all AALL members who want to become more active in supporting our legislative and regulatory agenda. No specific background knowledge or experience is required. This training has become an annual tradition, thanks to the support of our Executive Board.

Our goal is to have participants from each of our chapters and from every state so that we can develop chapter leadership, broaden support for our legislative work and train a larger number of highly skilled advocates. We’ll give you the practical tips and tools you’ll need to communicate with your elected representatives on a variety of important policy issues. By participating in our training, we hope you will become energized about our issues, prepared to explore different ways to advocate, and ready to evolve into effective advocates.

Participants will be able to select a breakout session on a specific issue of their choice, such as the authentication of digital legal information, funding for county law libraries or access to government information. Participants also will be able to contribute information about issues in their state and gain support for local policy matters of interest to them. Please register by June 1 by contacting Emily Feldman at ejf33@law.georgetown.edu.
