TYPE: Policy Committee

PURPOSE: The AALLNET Committee encourages member usage of AALLNET, provides education designed to improve the user experience, studies evolving user needs, works with AALL staff to ensure that AALLNET is meeting those needs, informs the Executive Board about AALLNET developments, and advises the Board on AALLNET policies.

CHARGE: Governed by the AALL’s official AALLNET policy (as approved by the Executive Board), the AALLNET Committee oversees the development and implementation of AALLNET and coordinates between membership, the AALL Board, and the AALL IT staff responsible for the website. The Committee works with Chapters, Special Interest Sections, other AALL groups, and individual members, serving as liaison between AALLNET, the AALL membership, Board and staff. The Committee encourages member usage of AALLNET, educates members and groups about best practices and appropriate content for AALLNET, and responds to member questions or concerns. The Committee solicits input from AALL groups and individual members and recommends AALLNET changes and improvements to AALL IT staff. The Committee informs the AALL Board of its efforts and recommendations.

TIME COMMITMENT: Committee work is divided among subcommittees or by individual and is spread out over the course of the year. Members participate in email conversations or conference calls during the year.

MEMBERSHIP QUALIFICATIONS: Expertise in web planning, design or management is strongly preferred; an understanding of the technological needs of AALLNET users is required.

TENURE: Membership on the Committee shall be for three (3) years. The returning member selected as Vice Chair at the end of the first year shall serve in that capacity in the second year and become Chair of the committee in the third year.

SIZE: The committee shall normally consist of a Chair, Vice Chair, five (5) members, and a non-voting Executive Board liaison. The LLJ/Spectrum Chair and the AALLNET Coordinator are ex officio members.

RELATIONSHIP TO OTHER COMMITTEES/STRUCTURES: AALLNET Chair serves as ex officio member of the Law Library Journal and AALL Spectrum Committee. The LLJ/Spectrum committee chair serves as ex officio member of this committee. This Committee also maintains relationships with Chapters, AALL entities and individual content providers.
