Rock the Vote

It's election time again. Every year an outstanding slate of candidates is presented to the members of AALL and every year about half the membership votes. I'd love to see the chapter leadership be a force to get out the vote. Please vote as soon as possible and encourage the AALL members of your chapters to vote. You can vote any day, any time since the polls are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You have until 11:59 p.m. Central Time, Saturday, December 1, to cast your ballot.

The AALL Online Elections can be accessed at https://secure.aallnet.org/vote/index.asp. You use the same email and password you currently use for the AALL Members Only Section.

Changes to AALL Spectrum and Chapter Columns

Effective as of September 2007 the Chapter Column no longer appears in the AALL Spectrum but on AALLNET. Please continue to send news about your chapters to Diane D'Angelo at ddangelo@suffolk.edu.

To view the chapter news items click News on the left side of the AALLNET home page. This will take you to AALL News where there is a link to Chapter News, Committee News, SIS News and Membership News. Two advantages of this change are that you don't have to wait until publication of Spectrum to read news about your and other chapters and you aren't hindered by print deadlines when submitting the news.

2007 Biennial Salary Survey Available

The 2007 AALL Biennial Salary Survey and Organizational Characteristics is now available in the Members Only Section of AALLNET.

This latest edition is the only source for up-to-date information about salaries for law librarians and other law library employees who work in academic libraries; private firms and corporate libraries; and state, court, and county law libraries.

The survey was carried out July through September 2007 in complete confidentiality by Association Research, Inc., a professional research firm in Rockville, Maryland, that works exclusively with nonprofit organizations. A major addition this year is the addition of job descriptions, written the Academic Law Libraries SIS, State Court & County Law Libraries SIS, and the Private Law Libraries SIS.

Printed copies of the 2007 Biennial Salary Survey and Organizational Characteristics will be available for purchase and shipment in mid-November; $110 for AALL members and $175 for nonmembers. The Association is accepting orders online, by fax at 312/431-1097, or by calling AALL Headquarters at 312/939-4764, ext. 212.

AALL Board Meeting

I will be attending the AALL Board Meeting this month. If there is any news or decisions made that are relevant to the chapters I will report on them in next month's chat.

Sincerely,

Mary Lu Linnane
