Call Nominations for the Chair of the Council of Chapter Presidents

It is hard to believe, but it is time to elect the next Chair! If you are a current Chapter President whose term will end by October 31, 2014, you are eligible to run for the position of Chair of the Council of Chapter Presidents. Please send your nominations to me at jhounshell@kentlaw.iit.edu. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, February 14th and self-nominations are encouraged.

More information on the Role of the Chair can be found on AALLNET, and I am happy to talk to anyone about my experience.

Chapter Summit Update

Soon each chapter will receive an invitation to participate in the AALL Chapter Summit scheduled for Friday, July 11 in San Antonio. The invitation will include a short survey. Please be sure to return the survey, as this will help the Chapter Summit Planning Committee ensure that this meeting meets the concerns and interests of your Chapter.

The facilitator and key speaker will be Mark Levin. Broad themes that Mark will help us to explore include: establishing strategic alliances, mentoring future leaders, recruitment/retention/engagement, and emerging opportunities for chapters and libraries.

Chapter Registration Awards for the 2014 AALL Annual Meeting

Each Annual Meeting, AALL underwrites one free full registration for ten chapters. This year chapter registration awards go to AALLUNY, GPLLA, LLAGNY, LLAM, LLNE, LLSDC, NJLLA, SEALL, WPLLA. Chapters receiving awards are typically notified in February and have until April 1 to select a recipient.

Traditionally the award is presented to newer members of AALL who meet whatever other guidelines that are set by the awarding Chapter. Recipients are recognized in the Awards Brochure.

Chapter Visits

Chapter visits are a great way to network and show off your chapter. It is not too late to consider scheduling a Chapter visit for the spring season. AALL will pay the visitor's travel expenses, so the visit is usually at no cost to your Chapter. You will benefit by having a wonderful speaker and staying connected to the AALL Board. Simply fill out the chapter visit request form and return it to Kim Rundle at least 8 weeks in advance of your chapter's event. Information on policies and procedures for chapter visits can be found on the Chapter Visit page on AALLNET.

AALL Awards Reminder

Just a reminder, the call for nominations for AALL awards has gone out to the membership. The deadline for most nominations is February 1, 2014, but check the description, criteria and application information for the appropriate award to be certain. Recipients of the AALL Awards will be recognized at the 2014 AALL Annual Meeting in San Antonio.
