CRIV to Visit Oxford University Press in May
Oxford University Press recently invited AALL's Committee on Relations with Information Vendors (CRIV) to visit its facilities in Cary, North Carolina. This is your chance to send in any questions, comments, and/or concerns you have for Oxford.
CRIV's Site Visit Subcommittee, chaired by JoAnn Hounshell, director of bibliographic services for Chicago-Kent College of Law, will be in North Carolina May 6-7 to meet with company executives about a number of topics. The subcommittee would appreciate your feedback to prepare the agenda for the meeting. Please send your questions and comments to JoAnn Hounshell by Tuesday, April 1. A summary report on the meeting will be published in The CRIV Sheet following the visit.
2008 National Legal Research Teach-In Kit
The Research Instruction and Patron Services (RIPS) Special Interest Section is proud to announce the release of the 2008 National Legal Research Teach-In Kit on Monday, March 24. Each year in conjunction with National Library Week, RIPS creates a Teach-In Kit, which contains fresh materials for use in your institution's promotional and instructional activities. Due to the great success of last year's Web-based kit, this year's release will again be online. New this year, the Teach-In Kit will no longer be password protected, making it available to all and facilitating its inclusion in library catalogs.
An overview of the kit, as well as kits from previous years, is available on AALLNET. RIPS thanks all of this year's contributors and hopes you enjoy the kit.

NCCUSL to Form Study Committee on Online Authentication of Legal Materials
We have just learned of an exciting new outcome of AALL's National Summit on Authentic Legal Information in the Digital Age convened by Immediate Past President Sally Holterhoff in April 2007. Delegate Michele Timmons, Minnesota revisor of statutes and a National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) commissioner, submitted a proposal to the Uniform Law Commission in June 2007 to create a study committee to explore the complex issues regarding digital authentication. The Law Revision Commission recently approved the new Study Committee on Online Authentication of Legal Materials to investigate the issues and discuss the feasibility of a uniform law or model act. The chair and members of the new study committee will be appointed in August, and AALL has been invited to name an observer.

You know that feeling where you could have sworn you talked with a customer service representative several months ago and he told you that he'd correct the problem you were having but now you find you are still having the same problem? Are you having a middle-aged moment, or did customer service not follow up on what it said it would do to correct the problem? Perhaps what you need is a publisher issues resolution log. Best Practices in Virtual World Law Librarianship
Kate Fitz of the Sacramento County Law Library is offering a free self-paced online workshop to any AALL member, library student, or law student interested in exploring Second Life law librarianship. The workshop begins on April 16 with an initial 45-minute Webinar to introduce participants to the opportunities and challenges of building a Second Life presence for their libraries.
Participants will create a free account in Second Life and develop at least one resource, exhibit, or program for display or presentation in the Second Life Law Library. A final 45-minute Webinar will report on participants' projects, usage statistics, and lessons learned and will present conclusions on the Second Life law librarianship project. An accompanying Web site will document the workshop.
Please sign-up by April 14 to confirm Webinar participation on April 16. If you cannot attend the Webinar but would still like to participate in the workshop, please indicate so when registering. Register early, because space is limited for the workshop.
Editors Wanted for Law Library Journal's "Keeping Up with New Legal Titles" Column
Law Library Journal seeks new editors for its quarterly book review column, "Keeping Up with New Legal Titles," beginning with the Winter issue for 2009. The current editors, Amy Atchison and Laura Cadra, will give up their positions at the end of Volume 100. Atchison has edited the column since the 2006 volume, and Cadra joined in 2007. Many thanks to them for the excellent job they've done managing and editing the column.
AALL members interested in editing "Keeping Up with Legal Titles" may apply as individuals or as a team of two or three. To apply, send a writing sample and cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position to Janet Sinder, Law Library Journal editor, by April 30.
Margaret Maes Appointed Executive Director of LIPA
The Legal Information Preservation Alliance (LIPA) Executive Committee recently appointed AALL member and Past President Margaret Maes as its new executive director. Maes was one of the people instrumental in the creation of LIPA and served for three years on the executive committee. She also chaired the strategic planning committee that created LIPA's current strategic plan.
Maes will officially take over the half-time executive director's position starting May 1. For now she will continue to work half-time at the University of St. Thomas Schoenecker Law Library, and you can reach her at 651/962-4868 or email@example.com. AALL congratulates Maes on her new position.

2008 Diversity Symposium to Explore Recruitment into the Profession
AALL will hold its Annual Diversity Symposium, "Developing Diversity: Exploring Innovative Approaches to Recruitment into the Profession of Law Librarianship," on Saturday, July 12, from 2-5 p.m., during the AALL Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon.
Join us for a provocative discussion of diversity, how it is defined, and how it can be achieved. Engage in a dialogue with our panel of experts, where we will assess our progress thus far, hear about innovative programs that aim to recruit members of diverse groups into law librarianship, and plot our course for the future.

The Government Relations Committee and Washington Affairs Office invite you to join them at this year's advocacy training session, "Navigating the Advocacy Wilderness: Tools and Tips to Become an Effective Advocate," during the AALL Annual Meeting in Portland. Learn how you can support AALL's policy agenda and practice skills to become a more effective communicator. No specific background knowledge or experience is required.

It's Time to Renew Your AALL Membership
On March 15, AALL dues invoices for 2008-2009 were mailed to all library directors for their institutionally paid memberships and to all other individual members. The deadline for membership renewal is May 31. Following is the 2008 membership renewal schedule:
March 15: First dues invoices mailed out.
May 1: Second dues invoices mailed out.
July 23: Expiration notices e-mailed to all members—individuals and those paid by institutions.
August 1: Expired members deleted from the AALL membership database and access to the AALLNET Members Only Section and Law Library Journal and AALL Spectrum subscriptions discontinued.
