The Reference Desk
I recently learned that a colleague had been out of work for more than a year. We had an opening at our library, and I contacted her to see if she might be interested in applying. She seemed perfect for the job and was, in fact, a finalist for the position. Ultimately, another candidate was chosen. I think my colleague had been counting on receiving an offer. I wonder if she would have been better off if I hadn't even contacted her.
