Time To Elect Your New Council Chair
My year as Chair of the Council of Chapter Presidents is half over and it will soon be time to elect my successor. If you are a current Chapter President whose term will end by October 31, 2013, you are eligible to run for the position of Chair of the Council of Chapter Presidents. Please send your nominations to me at email@example.com. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, February 15th and self-nominations are welcome.
If you would like to know more about the role and duties of the Council Chair, you can review the Role of the Chair information on AALLNET, which also includes a planning timeline of events and deadlines throughout the year. I am also happy to talk about my experience, so please feel free to call or e-mail me.
Chapter Government Relations Training Next Week
Be sure to RSVP for the Chapter Government Relations Training on January 30 th from 12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. EST. This year, the virtual training will replace the annual chapter leadership government relations training at the 2013 Annual Meeting in Seattle, so your participation is especially important! Presented by the AALL Government Relations Office (GRO), this training will help your chapter gear up for upcoming advocacy on issues like the Uniform Electronic Legal Material Act (UELMA) and funding for public law libraries in your state or region. You'll hear about the recent advocacy efforts of other chapters, learn best practices in government relations, and discover all the resources the GRO can offer.
Do you have a chapter advocacy story you'd like to share, or questions you'd like answered during the training? If so, please fill out this form. The GRO hopes to have at least one representative from each chapter present on January 30th. For those who cannot attend, the presentation will be recorded.
To access the virtual training on January 30th, dial 1-800-791-2345 and use passcode 84176.
Spring Chapter Visits
If you are planning to have an AALL Executive Board member visit your Chapter this Spring and have not submitted your request yet, you will want to do that as soon as possible to be sure there is availability. To schedule a chapter visit, just fill out the Chapter Visit Request Form on AALLNET and submit it to Kim Rundle. All of the information you need to know about chapter visits can be found here. Please note that the Spring AALL Executive Board Meeting will be held April 4-6, 2013 and no chapter visits can be scheduled during that time.
There is still time to get in your nominations for one of the many AALL awards that are given out annually. The AALL Awards Program was established as a way to publicly recognize the achievements of law librarians based on service to the profession and contributions to legal literature and materials. Awards are presented each year at the Annual Meeting. Information for all awards, including instructions and forms, can be found on AALLNET on the Awards page. All nominations must be postmarked by February 1, 2013, unless otherwise noted.
Chapter Registration Awards
The following 11 Chapters are eligible for Chapter Registration Awards for the AALL Annual Meeting in Seattle:
AALL will underwrite one free conference registration for each of the above Chapters.
Chapters have a great deal of discretion as to who they award the free registration to, but AALL recommends that it be offered to a newer member of the profession who would otherwise not have their registration fee paid for by their employer. Information will be sent to these 11 Chapter Presidents from AALL shortly with more details, as well as instructions for recipients, but eligible Chapters should begin planning now. Go to the Chapter Registration Awards Schedule on AALLNET for information on the rotation schedule through 2016.
AALL Annual Meeting Chapter VIP Program
The AALL Annual Meeting Chapter VIP Program presents an opportunity for your Chapter to invite special guests from your area's legal, governmental or information communities to receive a complimentary full registration to the AALL Annual Meeting. Please consider participating in this program. Although the VIP form will come out later in the year, it is never too early to start considering and planning for a Chapter VIP.
