The AALL Grants Program provides financial assistance to law librarians or graduate students who hold promise of future involvement in AALL and the law library profession. Funds are provided by vendors, AALL, and AALL individual members. Grants are awarded to cover the Annual Meeting registration fee or the registration fee for workshops presented at the Annual Meeting. Preference is given to applicants who are new to the profession and active in AALL or one of its chapters.
The AALL Grants Program began in 1952 and is one of the oldest and most successful AALL programs. More than 1,000 librarians have received funding to assist them in attending AALL educational activities. Many of those recipients are leaders in the profession today. For additional information, check out the application.
In 2001, an additional Grants Program, the Minority Leadership Development Award, was created to assure that AALL's leadership remains vital, relevant and representative of the Association's diverse membership. The Award provides up to $1,500 toward the cost of attending the Annual Meeting, an experienced AALL leader to serve as the recipient's mentor, and an opportunity to serve on an AALL committee during the year following the monetary award. For additional information, check out the application.
Applications for both AALL Grants Programs must be received at the Association’s headquarters by April 1, 2006.

The 2006 AALL Nominations Committee seeks your assistance in suggesting names of colleagues for forthcoming vacancies on the AALL Executive Board.
Historically, individuals nominated for these positions have, through previous chapter, SIS, or committee service, established their potential for senior leadership. The Committee will work throughout the spring to find outstanding candidates for two Board positions, as well as the offices of Vice President/President Elect and Treasurer. Your help in identifying individuals with leadership skills will be most appreciated.
Please send the names of your nominees to any member of the committee as soon as
convenient, but no later than March 15
Information about the AALL Nominations Committee and its process appears here.
Like a true friend, the Research, Instruction, & Patron Service Special Interest Section Teach-In Kit is always there for you. To help keep legal research instruction new and vibrant, the 2006 Teach-In Kit campaign is once again available for you in time for National Library Week. Be sure to get your copy!
The 14th National Legal Research Teach-In, organized by the RIPS-SIS, offers the opportunity to improve the skills of your patrons and showcase your skills as a teacher and information provider. Following the pattern of the past decade of highly successful Teach-Ins, Teach-In 2006 is scheduled in conjunction with National Library Week (April 2-8, 2006).
As in previous years, the Teach-In committee has worked with Thomson West to prepare unique instructional materials. Thanks to generous donations from this company, the kit will again be available at no charge.

If you read AALL Spectrum, you may have noticed a new department called "Member to Member." In this department we pose a question relating to AALL or law librarianship and publish three to five answers to the question from members. The question for the May 2006 issue of Spectrum is: What is your most nightmarish story about moving or remodeling a law library?
AALL members can submit an answer for potential publication in Spectrum. We are looking for short (one paragraph), interesting answers to the question. We will select up to five of the responses submitted for publication each month. If we select yours, we will contact you for permission before publishing it.
Selection of responses will be done by AALL Spectrum Editorial Director Paul Healey in conjunction with AALL Director of Publications Julia O’Donnell. Please send your responses to Paul and Julia by Wednesday, March 8.
The 2006 exchange of duplicates is scheduled to take place
in May 2006. Those who participated last year seemed to find the exchange a beneficial and worthwhile experience.
The exchange takes place annually and is sponsored by the Serials Committee of the AALL Technical Services SIS. Participating libraries submit a list of periodicals that they'd like to contribute to the exchange. Their lists are then consolidated into one big list. At a designated date and time, participating libraries contact each other and exchange their duplicate periodicals.
The exchange is a good opportunity to get missing issues needed for binding and to fill gaps in your collection. If you are interested in participating, the price is $30. A registration form/invoice can be downloaded here.
If you have any questions about the exchange, please contact Bonnie Geldmacher.
