Just Five Weeks until the Annual Meeting!

Plans are coming along well for the 99th Annual Meeting in St. Louis, July 8-12. Our latest statistical report shows that we currently have 1,596 people registered. Most impressive is the number of exhibitors this year – we will break all records with 198 booths and 111 exhibiting companies. Do join us as we celebrate our Centennial and learn all about Pioneering Change.

If you are wondering why this is our 99th Annual Meeting during our Centennial Year, our esteemed historian Frank Houdek informs us that AALL skipped a meeting during one of the World Wars. We will therefore celebrate our 100th Annual Meeting next year in New Orleans.

AALL Hires New Education Manager

I am very pleased to announce that Celeste Smith will join the AALL staff on Monday, June 12th in a newly created full-time position of Education Manager. Celeste comes to us from her own independent consultancy, and following six years with Productivity Point, International, a training company providing technology based solutions to the public and private sectors.

What set Celeste apart in a highly competitive field was her in-depth understanding of adult learning strategies and instructional design, her experience with interactive e-learning initiatives, and her keen interest in the field of legal information and information policy.

She will join us at the Annual Meeting in St. Louis so please make a point of greeting her and welcoming her to the fold.

Libraries, Museums, and Public Broadcasters to Hold 2nd Videoconference on Collaboration

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS) announced today that the Partnership for a Nation of Learners will sponsor a second national/local Community Collaboration Videoconference on June 19, from 1-3 p.m., ET.

Building on the success of the first event (November 30, 2005), which helped initiate, strengthen, and renew relationships among local, libraries, museums, and public broadcasting television and radio stations, the second videoconference will focus on real-life partnering tactics, such as developing appropriate roles for each partner and building a case for support. More than 40 public television stations across the country are expected to downlink the PBS-fed videoconference in their studios. The videoconference will be produced at WETA in Washington, D.C., and will once again feature Ray Suarez, senior correspondent for "The Newshour with Jim Lehrer," as the national host.

Professionals from libraries, museums, public radio stations, and other community organizations across the country are invited to participate. If you would like to attend (you need not have attended the November 30th conference), please visit the Partnership for a Nation of Learners Web site for a list of confirmed public television host sites, and contact the one nearest you by June 9.
