Special Committee on Pro Bono Partnerships Needs Your Help

The Special Committee on Pro Bono Partnerships is currently surveying academic and private firm law librarians with regard to the pro bono activities of their libraries. Please respond to the survey, which Pro Bono Committee members are posting to the ALL-SIS and PLL-SIS online discussion forums. The Committee is also interested in activities undertaken by firms and law schools generally. The feedback provided by AALL members will be helpful in the Committee's understanding of pro bono activities and opportunities for law library involvement. SCCLL members were surveyed in June, and their input will be included in the Pro Bono Committee's study. The survey will be sent this month--your participation is important, so please respond!

Our Illustrious Members: Kristin Cheny

We recently received an email from Kara Phillips, Collection Development Librarian and Associate Director at Seattle University Law Library, who tells us:

I thought you might like to know that Kristin Cheney, Director of Seattle University Law Library and winner of the Chicago Association of Law Libraries Spirit of Law Librarianship Award, is in the top ten finalists for the Animal Planet Hero of the Year Award. Kristin was chosen as a finalist from over 4,000 other nominees from across the nation.

The Seniors With Pets program provides free pet food to Pierce County senior citizens who are on a fixed income. People can come in once a month to pick-up their free pet food or if they are home-bound, volunteers deliver the food to their homes. Founded in 1998, the non-profit organization now provides pet food for between 900 – 1,000 dogs and cats every month. The program has allowed local seniors to keep pets they may not otherwise be able to feed and has encouraged the control of the pet population by facilitating the spaying or neutering of these pets. Seniors With Pets relies heavily on volunteers and donations to continue to provide free pet food for the local seniors. This charity also has cooperative agreements with other local organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Tacoma/Pierce County Humane Society, Saint Leo’s food bank, and the Emergency Food Network, to maximize their ability to serve the community.

Click here for more information about the Seniors With Pets program.

Happy Columbus Day!
