For Immediate Release
November 15, 2001

Do you need to build a foundation in the fundamentals of law cataloging? Then you'll want to register for the AALL Professional Development Program Workshop Basic Law Cataloging taking place March 1, 2 and 3, 2002, in Chicago. (This program was rescheduled from September 2001.)

During this 2-1/2-day workshop, participants will learn the basics of law cataloging. A combination of presentations, group exercises and breakout sessions will focus on descriptive cataloging, choice of main entry and access points, LC subject headings, LC classification for U.S. legal materials, serials/looseleaf cataloging, MARC tagging, cataloging of electronic materials, and authority work.

Register online at http://www.aallnet.org/prodev/event_cataloging.asp. The registration deadline is Feb. 15, 2002. For more information about the workshop, please contact AALL Education Manager Mary Jawgiel.

Basic Law Cataloging addresses Specialized Competency 5: Collection Care and Management in the AALL Competencies of Law Librarianship. The complete AALL Statement of Competencies can be found at http://www.aallnet.org/prodev/competencies.asp.
