Chapter
Professional Development Awards Honor Colorado and New England Chapter
Programs
For Immediate Release
June 13, 2002
The Colorado
and New England AALL chapters are the first recipients of the inaugural
Chapter Professional Development Awards for their outstanding educational
programs.
The 2002 One-Time
Chapter Professional Development Award goes to the Colorado Association
of Law Libraries for its Annual Institute, "As We Enter the
New Millennium ... ." At one of the presentations, a Colorado
judge emphasized the vital services law librarians provide. The
other two sessions focused on resource sharing in Colorado and the
transferability of law-librarian skills to other professions.
The Law Librarians
of New England wins the 2002 Comprehensive Chapter Professional
Development Award for its program "Introduction to Legal Research."
Aimed at both initiates to legal research and for those desiring
a refresher, the seven sessions covered basic legal research concepts,
case finding, statutory research, administrative law, secondary
materials, Westlaw and LexisNexis, and research strategy.
The program was offered in the spring and fall.
Newly created
last year, the Chapter Professional Development Awards honor professional
development programs created by chapters for both their members
and others. The one-time award recognizes a single quality program
or workshop of a half day in length or more. The comprehensive award
recognizes a chapter that excels at designing a comprehensive quality
professional program up to one year in length.
The awards will
be presented July 22 at the Association Annual Awards Ceremony and
Reception for Recipients and Contributors during the 2002 AALL Annual
Meeting in Orlando, Fla.
