Web Site Wins AALL Public Access to Government Information Award
For Immediate Release

The U.S.
General Services Administration has won the 2002 Public Access to
Government Information Award for its maintenance of the Web site
FirstGov, the official U.S. gateway to all government information.
Available at
http://www.firstgov.gov, FirstGov
contains a wealth of information provided by federal, state, tribal
and foreign government entities. The Web site provides efficient,
thorough and free access not only to information but also to the
means of communicating and transacting business with the government.
The site currently has access to more than 51 million pages of government
information, services and online transactions.
Established
in 1999, the Public Access to Government Information Award honors
significant contributions by people or organizations that protect
and promote greater public access to government information.
The award will
be presented July 22 at the Association Annual Awards Ceremony and
Reception for Recipients and Contributors during the 2002 AALL Annual
Meeting in Orlando, Fla.
