Government Web Site Wins AALL Public Access to Government Information Award

For Immediate Release
July 18, 2002

The U.S. General Services Administration has won the 2002 Public Access to Government Information Award for its maintenance of the Web site FirstGov, the official U.S. gateway to all government information.

Available at http://www.firstgov.gov, FirstGov contains a wealth of information provided by federal, state, tribal and foreign government entities. The Web site provides efficient, thorough and free access not only to information but also to the means of communicating and transacting business with the government. The site currently has access to more than 51 million pages of government information, services and online transactions.

Established in 1999, the Public Access to Government Information Award honors significant contributions by people or organizations that protect and promote greater public access to government information.

The award will be presented July 22 at the Association Annual Awards Ceremony and Reception for Recipients and Contributors during the 2002 AALL Annual Meeting in Orlando, Fla.
