June 10, 1997. The American Association of Law Libraries' (AALL) Award Committee has selected Betty W. Taylor and Marie Wallace as the 1997 recipients of the Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes extended and sustained service to law librarianship, for exemplary service to the Association, or for contributions to professional literature. Taylor is the Director of the Legal Information Center and Professor of Law, College of Law, University of Florida. Wallace is a retired member.

Established in 1984 as the Distinguished Service Award, this honor was renamed the Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award in 1990. Nominees are those who are or at one time have been a member of AALL and who are near or at the end of their careers. The award may be given posthumously. It is the highest honor presented by the Association.

The American Association of Law Libraries was founded in 1906 to promote and enhance the value of law libraries to the legal and public communities, to foster the profession of law librarianship, and to provide leadership in the field of legal information. Today, with over 4,800 members, the Association represents law librarians and related professionals who are affiliated with a wide range of institutions: law firms; law schools; corporate legal departments; courts; and local, state and federal government agencies.
