Functional Space Planning/Evaluation --
Maximize Your Library Space
For Law Firm and Corporate Law Libraries
Creating the right amount of well-designed space is an essential part of providing
stellar information services. If you are facing the design of a new space, or the
expansion/remodeling of an existing facility, this workshop will prepare you to meet the
challenge. Up-front analysis of services, collections, and technology are the
focus of discussion.
Participants will learn to:
- Identify the full spectrum of issues that they will face in preparation for and
implementation of a library redesign, or just the daily need to justify space;
- Prepare legitimate space needs assessment, by reviewing the many areas of concern prior
to planning for the actual space;
- Identify areas within the library that are ripe for interim adjustment;
- Identify the various types of shelving, workstations, and specialized library furniture;
- Recognize the importance of the level of infrastructure needed to support the required
electronic dissemination of information;
- Read a floor plan, review shop drawings, and millwork drawings;
- Identify "Things to Look For" in construction phases of the library design;
and
- Prioritize requirements for actually relocating into the new space.
